I've deleted comments when I've posted them so hastily that they're rife with typos or ungrammatical constructions. And I've deleted one or two when I decided that they weren't called for. So, I'm glad the little trash can is there, even if I would probably never need to use it if I simply took more time to craft my comments and made sure that I never published in anger. :-)

Denise, Nilax hasn't posted pictures yet. That is what it takes to get arrested. But do not worry, the FBI can follow traces of this person anywhere he/she goes. Eventually, Nilax with get his/hers.

Denise: If you create an email for yourself or others to use even temporarily, the other you are speaking with may be a pedophile who wormed his way in.... and the e-mail from you will give him your location. You are very smart to keep it right here.

Steve said...

What will Nilax get "his/hers" for if s/he continues to do nothing illegal here?

BrendaStar said...

It is illegal to talk about children as if you are molesting them!!! Why defend someone like that??? I understand Nag that hes a human being blah blah blah, but why are you defending him when you know hes saying horrible things... Were you the under dog in life?

Anonymous said...

Brenda: As sad as it is, it is not illegal to be a vile pig making statements according to the FBI. When it gets to the illegal state is when they post pictures.... THE LAW SAYS YOU MUST WAIT FOR IT TO HAPPEN. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Ridiculous I know,

Anonymous said...

Defending it is despicable and you must consider the source.

BrendaStar said...

that's just ridiculous... and we all wonder why it took so long to find Jaycee... Hugh!

If you even speak like that in regards to a child you should be taken in and questioned. How does dateline MSNBC get away with it then???? Maybe local law inforcement or local detectives would be interested.

Anonymous said...

goblinbee: Unless one deletes because of typos, or insignificant changes. It doesn't matter to much when others have opted for the follow-up comments to be sent to e-mails. There is always a trace.

Steve said...

Brenda, I'm not "defending" Nilax's conduct. The more I think about it, the more I think that if we're going to criminalize visual depictions of pedophilia, we might as well criminalize verbal ones as well, in which case, Nilax would be doing what s/he is doing here, or s/he could face some very serious consequences for doing it.

But having said that, Nilax has done nothing demonstrably illegal here so far, so, again, what's he going to get "his/hers" for?

Anonymous said...

Brenda: What is MSNBC getting away with? People are posting child porn and they are not dealing with it on their website?

Anonymous said...

"That's what being a real friend entails in a situation like this, and what an adult with real decency and integrity should be expected to do."

Nagarjuna, I have been perplexed by this and thinking about it ever since you wrote it, especially the second half. Was that directed at anyone in here? This forum is not a safe emotional space for many of us.

denise said...

Brenda,,,apparently it is not illegal to write about molesting children. Or, if it is illegal, as the FBI told me it was, under certain circumstances that Nilax has met, nothing will be done about it.

I am sure that Nagarjuna will reply directly to your questions of why he is agreeing with Nilax. But I want to say that I do not think Nagarjuna agrees with Nilax. I think, and once again, I of course could be wrong, but I think the point Nagarjuna is trying to make is that IF NILAX CANNOT WRITE HORRIBLE, SICK, TWISTED AND PERVERTED THINGS HERE, HOW CAN EVERYONE ELSE WRITE HORRIBLE, SICK, TWISTED AND PERVERTED THINGS HERE DIRECTED TOWARDS THE GARRIDOS.

We are all thinking in what is right from wrong. Nagarjuna is maybe thinking in a legal standpoint of it all. I do not agree with the things that some of the ppl have written here towards the Garridos as much as I disagree with Nilax's writings.

Steve said...

Correction to my previous comment: "In which case, Nilax wouldn't be doing the things s/he is doing here."

Anonymous said...

Brenda. Most of us have taken it upon ourselves to report Nilax to the FBI and other authorities. Nilax takes it upon his/herself to taunt and laugh in the face of God, the law, and us.

denise said...

"Nilax takes it upon his/herself to taunt and laugh in the face of God, the law, and us."

Well said, Teresa.

Anonymous said...

Thank you. That is however the point here. Opposed to the acceptability of it "only".

Steve said...

I find it interesting that Teresa seems to think that evil pedophiles are such great hackers that giving them a temporary e-mail address will not only lead them straight to your door, but that they would take the time and trouble to travel halfway or all the way across the country to victimize YOU or your kids instead of finding victims much, much closer to home. "Paranoia strikes deep. Into your heart it will creep..."

BrendaStar said...

I changed my post name ive been on here awhile now. I too have reported him about 4 days ago prior to Dr. Webb doing so.

LucyInTheSky said...

I think the fact that Nilax’s postings still remain shows the difficulties with unmoderated blogs/forums etc. He/she would be well aware that the postings would not be removed.

Only yesterday I was reading a news article in one of the US papers on-line, which had only recently been posted.
There was already 1 comment, like on here, graphically describing what should happen to the Garridos. This comment was reported and was very promptly removed.

Steve said...

Goblinbee, thank you for your question. I've thought about that comment myself since I posted it. Perhaps I should have trashed it and rephrased the last portion of it. No, I was not accusing you, Denise, or anyone else here of lacking integrity, because I understand integrity to mean acting according to what you believe, and none of you seem to believe that Teresa has done anything bad enough to be sternly reprimanded much less ostracized for. I also wasn't accusing you of lacking decency, since you have shown great decency in every other way.

I guess I was just saying that, in a general sense, good people don't let others get away with Teresa's conduct without calling her sternly to task for it.

So, so, so, easy to see the resemblance

denise said...

Nagarjuna, I can answer your question of "Whats Nilax going to get his/hers for"

I am a Christian. And I believe that if I am not a good person, bad things will happen in my life. Not that bad things do not already happen. But things get worse. I honestly believe it, as I have not always lived the most upstanding life myself. And since I have found the Lord, I have seen such a huge difference.
But please do not ask me to debate you on religion, because I admit I have not studied the Bible and there is so much I do not understand. I only know how I feel. And I think some ppl believe they are doing good in life, although they do dirt, and they dont realize that bad things sometimes happen to them for a reason.

Steve said...

Denise, you have captured the essence of my previous argument very well. Nilax has done nothing significantly worse here than have those who've vented their sadistic fantasies regarding Garrido. Both kinds of comments are depraved and have no place in any public forum, and BOTH should be condemned.

However, that wasn't the point of my most recent posts on this matter. I was simply saying that Nilax faces no LEGAL consequences for his/her comments unless it can be shown they recount actual events that s/he perpetrated. And I'm guessing that that isn't likely.

Anonymous said...

Brenda: What did you mean by what MSNBC getting away with? People are posting child porn and they are not dealing with it on their website?

Steve said...

"So, so, so, easy to see the resemblance."

"Resemblance" between WHAT and WHAT? If you aren't even reading my comments, how can you insinuate that they resemble anything, much less resemble the traits revealed in that letter to the paper?

You become more and more ridiculous as you continue posting. :-)

Steve said...

Brenda, I think the short answer to your question is that MSNBC's investigation showed people who were busted for soliciting sex with minors and showing up what they thought was the minor's residence to have sex with them. They weren't busted for doing what Nilax has been doing.

BrendaStar said...

Denise,

First off I wasnt saying that Nag was aggreeing with Nilax that would make him a sick person. I am also aware of what Nag's point is and I too agree with him in that sense. I have not ever on here posted a vile comment to the Garrido's I stated they kidnapped my friend when we were 11 in 5th grade in the same class, I stated that they robbed her of any childhood and future she was meant to have. I in NO way shape or form stated that I was God and tried to dictate what his outcome should be for the crimes he has committed. I do believe that God or the powers at be will have justice and I am not God or the powers at be so I have no way right shape or form to plan that out. I also do not believe in physically harming ANYONE!!! All these vile comments that say he should be butt raped and blah blah. I understand that people are venting their frustrations about this subject and it does strike anger in people and that is where those comments are coming from, but I do not believe that anyone should harm anyone else or their person. Garrido and his wife Nancy will have their judgement day and none of us will have any say in that but I have faith it will take place. I just wanted to be clear about that. It would serve me no justice to spout out hastefulk things id like done to him and his wife, as that would take what has happened away. I am so thankful and feel it is a miracle that my friend Jaycee has been found after all these years we were waiting, looking, and praying for her to come home... I remember the day she was kidnapped as if it was yesterday. It is truly a miracle!!!!!!! and that is what I am rejoicing in is that the fact is now the healing can begin!!!!!

Teresa, I do not see how the blog you posted helps us to see through a pedophile. And quite frankly, I wished I had never been exposed to reading it.

I actually thought it was going to be a checklist of things to look for in a person to determine if that person was a pedophile or not. Which I would not have paid much attention to either, as I do not believe you can look at a person that is, lets say, wearing blue and determine that they must be in the Crips gang. Nor can you decide in this manner if someone is a pedophile or not.

Obviously getting nowhere for him, it is apparent this is his true grudge. You show now compassion for the victims of this crime. You chose to ask for compassion from these recent posters for mere comments against you. What a bigot you are.

Paranoia is an unfounded or exaggerated distrust of others, sometimes reaching delusional proportions. Paranoid individuals constantly suspect the motives of those around them, and believe that certain individuals, or people in general, are "out to get them."

LucyInTheSky said...

nagajuna

BrendaStar said...

Tara took the words out of my mouth LOL.

Steve said...

Brenda, I think we ALL agree that adults who victimize children (and other adults) sexually need to be dealt with in such a way that they can't and don't do it again. What isn't clear is whether it should be done through "stronger laws" such as lifetime incarceration or capital punishment after the first offense, through stricter enforcement of laws already on the books, or through a combination of the two. I suspect that most would support the third option. I, with some aformentioned reservations, am one who does.

Anonymous said...

Truly Brenda: I am not going to rehash it all. It is to difficult to comprehend and I get so disgusted, I virtually throw up. It boils down to about 15 statements very similar to this by nagarjuna: "As for the WA case of the abused girl, it sounds to me as though she may have gone through worse and bear worse physical and emotional scars from it than Jaycee and her daughters have and will."

The lack of compassion for all victims, Jaycee being the most precious being in the hearts of so many have been so violated, and this "thing" is truly getting his rocks off - degrading others for nothing but argument for his own cause, selfishly, pitifully, and disgracefully.

If you want to know more, you will have to go back and read it yourself. I personally find it despicable, and I find it in line with how a pedophile attempts to real in his victims.

Steve said...

Tara, but of course she does. :-) If Denise keeps it up, she'll be next. Watch out, Denise! :-)

denise said...

Oh. Again I mistakenly read Taras name to be Teresa. I apologize. I think the trash can icon can be useful now. lol Please accept my apologies, Tara.

Steve said...

When I said that some other little girl may have suffered even worse abuse than Jaycee did, I was NOT suggesting that Jaycee didn't suffer terribly. As I explained before, there are degrees of suffering. But, as I also admitted before, I am not qualified to say who suffered more. And even though I only said, "she may have" suffered more, I still think that was out of line, and I retracted it. I didn't say something terrible, but I did say something I don't want to stand behind.

I would think that your last post summarises very well.
I think the only issue that would generate very strong views from both extremes is the subject of capital punishment. It obviously is a very emotive subject for many reasons, moral, religious, and that no justice system can ever be 100% foolproof.

LucyInTheSky said...

Teresa has made me crazy from the beginning. My tendency is to ignore such people. Even if she was calling me a pedophile. I feel annoyed, Nagarjuna, that you then think I'm the one not ostracising her. You are the one that keeps needling her, not me.

But if we cannot refrain from attacks and insults, I will definitely never return here.

I see each and every one of you as very intelligent and educated people. Please stop the insults and harrassment towards each other.

Anonymous said...

There is no work to be done for the victims Teresa, they are not coming here anymore. Only the victimizer. His ploy started out as one who was so morally rightious to this. To cry for others to stick up for him after someone called him a name, but to demortalize the pain of others. then to come back and attack you, to be vindictive in these fashions. There are no victims causes in this room. Just a pedophile and those stupid enough to follow, I doubt. Stick with alter egos. It is written on the wall. Take a break from the disgust and shame in this room.

Anonymous said...

I say let them be victimized.

denise said...

"and that no justice system can ever be 100% foolproof."

Tara, this is one of my reasons for being against capital punishment. Also that I hate the violence of it. But when we can be 100% sure, like with the Garridos, then I feel much more ambivalent. As I've said before, I feel very conflicted about capital punishment. But someone, somewhere has to make these decisions.

The only reason that I continued to read this blog, was that after some of the hate filled venting posts had subsided I continued to read the informative comments being made.
After much thought, I decided to post myself, hopeful that I could contribute but also gain an insight into how the views and laws of the USA differ from those in the UK.
But also how things could be changed, if needed, to stop these types of horrendous crimes happening again, in both our countries.
This needs to be not only changes to the law (or more vigorous enforcement of existing) but also on a personal level of how we think/live in today’s society.

Hopefully this blog can continue in this manner.

denise said...

Someone, somewhere, has to make these decisions. But who?

I want to ask Tara and Nagarjuna a question. Do you 2 believe that the Garridos, being so obviously guilty of what they are accused of and of what they have done, do not deserve the death penalty? Do you believe that we might mistakenly execute innocent persons in this case?

Ok, a few questions, rather. Or do you feel that hard working families should have to pay out of their already strained incomes, like Teresa previously said, to feed and house these criminals and provide adequate medical care for them for quite possibly, a very long time?

I want to add that my children do not have any type of medical insurance and I pay cash for groceries, and my cupboards are basically empty always. And lets not forget that the daughters never have been seen by a doctor or a dentist. And Jaycee gave birth without any type of medical assistance or anesthesia.

Steve said...

Goblinbee, I'm sorry you feel "annoyed" with me. I still believe that some here have taken Teresa's false accusations too lightly and have not responded appropriately to them. But you see things differently, and I haven't pursued the point any further.

Yes, I continue to comment on Teresa's ridiculousness, because it sadly occurs to me that many of the people who hang out here NEED to see rebuttals of Teresa's absurd comments in order to have even a chance of recognizing those absurdities.

BrendaStar said...

Tara I could not agree with you more.

Steve said...

"But when we can be 100% sure, like with the Garridos, then I feel much more ambivalent."

So do I, Goblinbee. Aside from my reservations about executing sick people for being sick, I'm concerned about being "100% sure." As I commented at some length previously, but no one addressed, how do we "codify" certainty? That is, what standards of proof of guilt would have to be met and how could they be written so that we could infallibly apply them an accused person?

Anonymous said...

And on and on and on. Nag, didn't your ploy start off attempting to disgrace themselves by stating violent actions which should be taken against the biggest dirtiest pedophile of all time? Is it not true that you had no kind word for the victim until it was prodded out of you? Didn't you still refuse to respond to requests to show you were humane and were capable of compassion? The answer to all the above is yes.

What right do you have for trying to attack Teresa or anyone else for that matter for calling you a name. You are a Bigot.

Sorry Teresa, I will have to keep saying it, just in case someone does come in here to read this without going backward.

LucyInTheSky said...

Denise
As I already mentioned I feel that there will be very strong opinions from both sides regarding capital punishment.
I would agree in the Garrido case that the possibility of error in the justice system is virtually non-existence and therefore (probably) not relevent.
However my opposition, in this case and any other is moral in that I do not agree that we humans, especially those who are capable of sane rational decisions have the right to decide who lives and who dies.

Regarding the cost of keeping these criminals in custody for their natural life (which is what I personally think should happen), I think that this is an unfortunately consequence of the society we live in today.
Are criminals born this way ?
Have we in society (involving many social factors) created these people that carry out such horrendous crimes ?

Steve said...

"Do you 2 believe that the Garridos, being so obviously guilty of what they are accused of and of what they have done, do not deserve the death penalty? Do you believe that we might mistakenly execute innocent persons in this case?"

Intellectually, I believe that the Garrido's did what they did because of psychological disorder and that people should not be executed for being sick unless there is an overriding benefit from doing it, and I don't see that it would be overridingly beneficial in this case. But, no, I do not believe that there is even a "shadow of a doubt" about the Garridos' guilt, and, if there is to be capital punishment, I think it should be applied only to those we are equally certain are guilty.

"do you feel that hard working families should have to pay out of their already strained incomes..."

I've addressed this before. Let me allude to what I've posted previously by asking this: How can we make executing people less costly than incarcerating them for life without significantly and unacceptably increasing our chances of executing an innocent person?

You ask excellent questions, Denise.

denise said...

TheBoogieManHater...I can testify that Nagarjuna has admitted, on occasion, to being maybe a little insensitive in some of the comments he made. And he then apologized for them. He has corrected himself a few times, on a few things.

He remains true to his original beliefs, but has admitted at times he could have worded things differently.

Teresa, without solid proof and on a personal suspicion, said outright that Nagarjuna is a definite pedophile without a doubt. I believe she should have included words such as "I BELIEVE" or "YOU TRULY APPEAR TO BE" in her accusations.

Steve said...

"Nag, didn't your ploy start off attempting to disgrace themselves by stating violent actions which should be taken against the biggest dirtiest pedophile of all time?"

I'm not sure I understand your rather unclearly worded question. But if I understand you correctly, there was no "ploy," just an intellectual and emotional reaction to seeing what I regarded as the depraved madness that I saw here in response to Garrido's madness. I subsequently admitted that I showed insensitivity in making this case as strongly and persistently as I did. I didn't do this as part of any "ploy" but as a result of careful consideration of my comments and genuine reservations and regrets over having made some of them.

"Is it not true that you had no kind word for the victim until it was prodded out of you?"

No. I stated very early on that the Dugards have suffered terribly and that the Garridos should be quarantined from society for the rest of their lives if not executed for their crimes.

"Didn't you still refuse to respond to requests to show you were humane and were capable of compassion?"

No.

What right do you have for trying to attack Teresa or anyone else for that matter for calling you a name?

What names have I called Teresa or insults have I leveled at her that compare even remotely with her (and you) repeatedly, falsely, and flatly accusing me of being a pedophile?

denise said...

I do understand your views about morals. I am all for the death penalty, yet I wouldnt want to be the actual Executioner. But when I think of the rights and wrongs of what it would do to an executioner to dehumanize them, I also think about Soldiers.

Have we in society (involving many social factors) created these people that carry out such horrendous crimes ?

In answer to that, I have to say that if we start executing the 100% positively guilty persons, instead of letting them back out on the streets, maybe our children will eventually have that much less ugliness to see as they grow up. And therefore, will be able to conduct themselves in more positive ways. Also, I believe it would prove to be a good example to deter many crimes.

As I said before, considering the slap on the wrist that criminals receive now, Im surprised there are not more vigilantes at work.

Anonymous said...

Denise I think you should go back and read from the beginning. It was like pulling teeth, at the request of at least 20 people for nag to recognize his inability to care. It wasn't until he lost the ability to have anyone at all to communicate that he realized he had to bend in order to suck you people in for more. So he bent.. I think it was comment 1,356 or so. While he had about 50 opps to reply.

You seem to be flip flopping with what is your view in here anyway. Back and forth, back and forth. If anyone is sucked into this, it is you. It's your life. Good luck with it. All for the sake of having a conversation. Sad

“instead of letting them back out on the streets”

I can certainly agree that existing laws need to be more effective or changed and that an alternative to capital punishment, for the most horrendous crimes, be life meaning natural life and they should never be released back into society.

“I believe it would prove to be a good example to deter many crimes”
But is capital punishment in reality a deterent. In the USA you still appear to have a considerable number of people on Death Row ?

“As I said before, considering the slap on the wrist that criminals receive now, Im surprised there are not more vigilantes at work”

I can certainly agree with that, as that also happens in the UK

"No doubt in my mind. Nagarjuna, you are a pedophile."

No doubt in my mind that you are committing a potentially libelous offense in falsely accusing me of an odious proclivity and potentially damaging me because of it.

denise said...

If I appear to be flipflopping as you say, it is probably because I am having these conversations with a very open mind. I am not so smug to believe that my beliefs are 100% correct, and I appreciate, respect and want to learn other peoples perspectives. That is how I feel about everything in my life.

I do not feel that I flipflop. I have my personal feelings that cannot be changed. But at the same time, I can read some comments here that are eye openers for me, or can make me think twice about my own feelings and ideas. I also have ideas of my own, that can be changed, just by listening or reading other people in here that make sense to me.

I believe that Tara could possibly say anything in any given moment to make me realize something about the death penalty that I did not think about before. Or maybe Nagarjuna can make me see a point of view about mental illness that would make me realize that it might not be right to execute murderers and rapists because they have some mental glitch beyond their control.
As of this moment, I still believe the same as I believed last week, before I entered this site. But I read everyones differences in here and I learn from them.

I can learn lots of new things here, such as: Can someone tell me if being a self proclaimed fool would mean that we have each called ourselves fools? Because I do not recall proclaiming myself to be a fool. I am just not understanding what self proclaimed fools means. Can someone please explain to me. Thank you.

But is capital punishment in reality a deterent. In the USA you still appear to have a considerable number of people on Death Row ?

I guess I really am thinking about the other countries that actually move fast and chop off fingers for stealing bread and the likes. It seems to be a deterrent there. But I cannot actually say this for a fact, as I do not know the crime rate in those countries.

But in any manner, if we did move faster, we would still execute more humanely than those countries. I know someone will say that I think we should use the primitive and inhumane tactics of those countries. And that is not how I believe. But if we actually followed through on the punishments we give, then some would think twice before committing some crimes.

I want to state my feelings about something. Nagarjuna says correctly that Phillip Garrido has a sickness. An actual mental illness and he cant help doing what he does, because he is not in control of his own mind or actions.

Maybe that is true. But I believe that ANYONE that can kidnap little girls, rape and torture them, and keep them locked away, or murder them, or even release them later on, has got to be sick with the same illness. No Sane person can commit these acts, Nagarjuna. I also believe that murderers are not in their right minds either, when they kill. Even the drug dealers and thugs that kill, are not very level headed, and have a sickness.

That doesnt make them less dangerous, or persons to be pitied or treated any differently than a rabid dog. They have an illness that is dangerous to everyone and can never be cured. And they should be put down.

You mentioned about punishments such as cutting off hands etc

I actually lived in Saudi Arabia for a year, back in the late 70's. Husband was working there and we went as family. Daughter was only 3 then.

Did I feel safer living there ? Not really. Living a society with punishments which some may consider barbaric, cutting off hands for theft, public executions. Yes they also happened on many occasions whilst we were there but obviously we chose not to view.

I could almost sense the fear in me. Petrified that I could possibly be mistaking accused of a crime.
Maybe it is a deterrent in such countries, I really don’t know, but I certainly know that I wouldn’t want to live there permanently.
You could still live in fear, but just of a different kind.

"Nagarjuna says correctly that Phillip Garrido has a sickness...That doesnt make them less dangerous, or persons to be pitied or treated any differently than a rabid dog."

Denise, how would YOU treat a rabid dog? I certainly wouldn't blame the dog for being rabid, nor would I hate it for being rabid. So, why would I blame and hate sick people for being sick?

Now you'd probably have no qualms about killing a rabid dog? But what if there were a cure for rabies and you could inject the dog with it and cure him?

Of course, there doesn't seem to be a reliable cure for child molesting, but I have a problem comparing a person who sickly molests children with a rabid dog. In general, don't you see dogs and people on different levels? For example, I'd guess that you have no qualms about euthanizing a dog when it grows old and feeble. But do you ALSO support euthanizing old and feeble adults?

I "pity" rabid dogs. And if I pity rabid dogs, I pity sick people all the more. For, as much as you might not like to hear me say this, I believe that people whose sickness makes them molest children are as much victims of that sickness as the children they molest. Yes, some here will condemn me for saying such a thing and proclaim that it's further proof that I'm a child abuser. But, if you can overcome your immediate emotional reaction to my words and stop and think about them, how is someone forced by his sickness or defect to victimize others not also a victim of that sickness or defect, especially when he ends up being arrested, vilified by virtually everyone forever, and sentenced to life in prison or executed for it?

I have or try, even though it's a real struggle in Garrido's case, to feel and express sympathy and compassion for ALL victims and not just for some.

Yes, let's replace our "lax" justice with sharia "justice." :-)

Nagarjuna, guess what!! I am a vegetarian and an animals rights activist. And I would never ever have an old and sickly dog put to sleep, no matter what. I had nightmares when my brother put our other brothers seeing eye dog to sleep. But I do not see how old and feeble dogs or humans can compare to rabid and vicious dogs and humans.

But, had the seeing eye dog become rabid, I would know that the only humane thing to do for the dog, and safest thing to do for society, would be to euthanize him.

Now you wouldnt want to see poor Phillip Garrido suffer for long amounts of years with the illness that is probably torturing him worse and worse each and every day, do you? Come on, Nagarjuna, have a heart, and agree that the only humane thing to do for Garrido, is to put him out of his painful misery.

I left our little paradise on Earth because my mother moved here with her new husband. My daughter was here for the summer visiting. When I came to retrieve my daughter, and visit for a few weeks before returning home, I decided to stay. I thought it would be a great get away from the craziness of Paradise. And it has been a little easier here in many ways. But since I have been here, 12 years, there have been so many people I know that have been murdered, for various reasons. Some drugs, some crimes of passion, some robberies, some racist and hate crimes, some who knows why.
And if you have not travelled far from home, you would not believe the amount of racism and ignorance that still exists in this country. I was so shocked. But then, I guess most of our negative history did take place in this area.

Nagarjuna, it is so amazing that you mentioned the ordained minister child molester. Because the man that killed my sons mother, had been released from prison only a few months before he killed her. Well, he killed her on a Friday. And the next Wednesday, I was at the girls mothers house, and a letter had arrived in the mail addressed to the murderer. It was from the prison he had been released from. The mother of the girl opened the mail and guess what it was. It was a ministers license or certificate!!!

Since its inception in 2005, Operation FALCON has made more than 55,800 arrests and cleared over 70,500 warrants and is the single most successful initiative aimed at apprehending violent fugitives in U.S. law enforcement history.

In Operation FALCON 2008, as in prior operations, an emphasis was placed on the capture of violent offenders, gang members and sex offenders. Nationwide, the operation arrested 161 persons wanted for murder, 388 gang members and 1,096 sex offenders. Among those brought in:

*

FALCON investigators arrested Roger Allen Chipman June 4 in Milwaukee, Wis. Chipman walked away from a Michigan prison work detail in 1970. At the time of his escape, he was serving a five to 10-year prison term for a 1968 conviction for indecent liberties with a minor. Once the U.S. Marshals adopted the case, FALCON investigators determined Chipman had assumed a false identity – Roger Allen Hansen. U.S. Marshals discovered that in 1978 Milwaukee authorities arrested Chipman under this alias for sexual assault on a child, and again in 1995 for criminal sexual assault. Chipman registered as a sex offender using his alias. Acting on information obtained from the sex offender registry, FALCON investigators identified Chipman's location, responded to that site and took him into custody. While attempting to locate Chipman, investigators also developed information that he fraudulently obtained Social Security benefits. Chipman may face additional federal charges relating to those allegations.

*

FALCON investigators arrested Steve Kwon and Jae Hwan Shim June 23 at the Port of Entry in Douglas, Ariz., after the two were deported from Mexico. California authorities wanted Kwon and Shim, South Korean nationals, on four counts of murder. Authorities in Los Angeles County allege Kwon and Shim murdered four individuals, a NASA engineer, an unidentified woman, a 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. California firefighters discovered the bodies after extinguishing a house fire in Quartz Hill June 23. California authorities developed information identifying Shim and Kwon as the alleged assailants as well as leads indicating they fled to Mexico and contacted the U.S. Marshals for assistance. FALCON investigators subsequently coordinated the location, arrest and deportation of Kwon and Shim. Kwon and Shim currently remain in custody in Arizona pending extradition to California.

I meant that if you're right that execution allows a criminal to suffer less than he would if he had to spend the rest of his life in prison, this should give people who want to see criminals executed second thoughts. Maybe they should support lifetime imprisonment instead. That way, the criminal they want to see suffer ends up suffering more.

Hope this helps.

I do not know. Perhaps.

Suppose I do a bunch of meth, stay awake for 2 weeks, then enter your back door in the middle of the night and torture your wife, then slit her throat. It is all on camera.
I go home, get some sleep and either feel bad about what I have done, or do not even remember doing it. Obviously, drug addiction is a sickness. It can be cured even. But with the possibility of relapse. SHOULD I BE EXECUTED?

Good questions, Denise. You didn't answer mine. But I will answer yours by saying that PHILOSOPHICALLY, I don't think ANY of the hypothetical perpetrators you described should be "put down" like a "rabid dog," because they are NOT dogs; they are sick HUMAN BEINGS.

Now, EMOTIONALLY I would feel very different if a loved one of mine were victimized in one of the ways you described by one of the perpetrators you described. But I'm not sure that we should judge fairness and justice in terms of how we would feel or what we'd like to see done to perpetrators who victimize us or our loved ones. I think that perhaps, just perhaps, our society and justice system has a human obligation to take more than the emotional reactions of victims and their loved ones into account before and while it dispenses justice. I believe that perhaps, just perhaps, society and our justice system needs to answer to a higher standard and calling than emotional vindictiveness.

Nagarjuna,,,there are just some cases that are too clear cut, such as Phillip Garrido, and the man that killed my sons mother.

We cannot wrongly accuse them of their crimes. They are guilty. Beyond a shadow of a doubt. They were definitely guilty of their first crimes also. Without a shadow of a doubt. Yet, they both were released to strike again. Lord knows how many times, also. We only know for sure of the crimes they were caught at.

Steve said...

My apologies, Denise. You DID answer my question when you said, "I do not know. Perhaps."

"Nagarjuna,,,there are just some cases that are too clear cut, such as Phillip Garrido, and the man that killed my sons mother."

They may, indeed, be "clear cut" to the eye. But how do we WRITE laws that effectively spell out what kinds of evidence and degrees of certainty are necessary in order to find someone guilty not just "beyond a reasonable doubt" but "beyond a shadow of a doubt" and then execute him or her with virtually complete certainty that he or she is guilty?

As I spelled out in a previous entry, do we rely on notoriously unreliable eyewitness testimony or on forensic evidence that may be tainted by negligent or intentionally poor collection, preservation, and analysis?

Anonymous said...

T - we are back - see you in a few hours

Nagarjuna,,,at least the ones that are caught in the act should be executed. It is common sense.

Tara, I have been looking at the capital punishment site. And I see where some countries had executed persons for murder, rape, etc. And I am so curious to know if these were the only murderers, rapists, etc. that were caught? Or why did these particular persons get executed?

Nagarjuna, some states do have the death penalty. I wonder why some murderers sit on death row while other murderers receive lighter sentences.

Will it matter if I kill you with a rusty knife or a clean shiny bullet? Dead is dead. Will I be a more humane murderer if I do not torture you first, before slitting your throat? What if I stab you all the way through, hoping to kill you, but you survive. Am I any less of a murderer? I wanted you dead, right?

If I HAD to be killed one way or the other???? Why dont you ask me if I HAD to be kidnapped at the age of 11, would I prefer a hot sexy man or an old, stanking man?

You cannot compare legal execution to the illegal act of harming innocent persons.

denise said...

LucyInTheSky said...

Very sorry to hear that Denise.
Have you any insurance cover for the damage ?

Steve said...

"The girls mother witnessed it, and the police caught him 2 blocks away with her blood all over him. "

I'm reluctant to examine these details with you because of your very personal connection with them. But let us say we had a similar case somewhere else.

Someone claims to have witnessed a murder and to be able to identify the murderer, the police claim to have apprehended nearby the person the self-professed eyewitness claims is the murderer, and the police claim to have found blood on the suspect's shirt that is subsequently claimed by a forensics lab to match the victim's blood.

Sounds awfully cut and dried. And I'd be the first to agree with you, Denise, that I would be very hard pressed not to think that the suspect was guilty as charged.

But I'd still ask the following:

How do we KNOW "beyond a shadow of a doubt" that the supposed eyewitness really witnessed the crime? How do we know that the eyewitness really saw who or what s/he said s/he saw? How do we know that the police really apprehended the suspect as close to the crime scene as they claim, that they really found blood on the suspect's shirt, that the blood the forensics lab analyzed wasn't mishandled accidentally or on purpose or planted by police, that competent technicians handled and analyzed the blood properly, and that the degree of certainty of the match of the evidence blood with the victim's blood claimed to have been discovered by the analysis is a valid claim?

Steve said...

"You cannot compare legal execution to the illegal act of harming innocent persons."

Denise, YOU are the one who posed a question the point of which I didn't understand about how I'd prefer to be executed, and I replied with a question of my own followed by my answer to that question. So, I don't understand your criticism of my reply.

Steve said...

"You cannot compare legal execution to the illegal act of harming innocent persons."

Actually, I'm not so sure of that. At times it has seemed to me that legal execution may be WORSE than someone harming innocent persons because he's sick. For state execution is just about as cold-bloodedly rational an act as there is; murder of the innocent often is not. Yet, interestingly, the more closely murder of the innocent approximates the cold blooded rationality of a state execution--that is, the more premeditated and calculated it is--the more we tend to deplore it and the more harshly we're inclined to punish it.

What's more, if someone murders an innocent person because sickness or defect made him do it, isn't he too, in a sense, "innocent"? Innocent of culpability? To revisit my dementia example awhile back, if a senile man got behind the wheel of a car because he didn't know what he was doing, and he ran over and killed some kids, wouldn't he, in a sense, be "innocent" of murder?

Steve said...

Denise, I'm sorry to hear about the break in as well. I hope things go well with the aftermath and that those who committed the act receive justice.

Nagarjuna...you said...Denise, YOU are the one who posed a question the point of which I didn't understand about how I'd prefer to be executed

That made me laugh. Because I guess you misunderstood what I was trying to say. The reason I said it was because the man that killed my sons mother was first charged with first degree murder, and some other crimes that he had committed. But when it was all said and done, they dropped so many charges on him and made it a lesser charge. As if he killed her less than they originally had said. It just didnt make any sense to me. She is dead. Dead forever. No matter how he killed her, with a clean shiny bullet, dirty knife, or as she cradled her own son (and his) in her arms. SHE IS DEAD FOREVER. She never will get paroled. She never has an "OUT DATE". How can that be right?

And he did it, Nagarjuna. It wouldnt matter if they never even tested the blood in some lab. Or even if there were no eyewitnesses. He admitted it the minute they nabbed him. But of course, later pleaded not guilty.

Denise,
First of all, I hope there was little or no damage of you property that was broken in to.

Second, although I'd still prefer not to discuss a case in which you're so personally involved, I'd just like to ask you why they lowered the charges? Was it because he cooperated by pleading guilty? Was it because of extenuating circumstances? Would you not agree that, although "dead is dead," death can be inflicted with varying degrees of barbarity by peoplew with varying degrees of pathology or defectiveness and that these variations should, perhaps, be taken into account in formulating charges?

Okay, "he admitted it." So, are you saying that anytime someone admits to committing a crime, that is proof of guilt "beyond a shadow of a doubt" in a capital case?

denise said...

Teresa,,,surely, you and your friends have more direct ways of communicating. Better be quiet, Denise, or Teresa or one of her sock puppets will accuse you of being one of my sock puppets, and that will be the end of your so very fruitful communication with all of them. :-)

Denise you should scroll back and read. Teresa is watching a movie. She is not here, she doesn't want to deal with your stupidity anymore.

Well, the house is very destroyed. They shattered a bedroom window along with the frame. They pried the back iron screen door, and its frame away from the house itself. They broke some minor things inside the house such as light covers, and they poured some kind of red substance all over the kitchen counters and floor. The house is covered by insurance, but I am not informed enough to know how to speak with the insurance agents and get a claim approved. We had a huge ice storm here. It destroyed the outside structures and roof of the house at the first of the year. I mistakenly said that we had an ice storm, so I couldnt be reimbursed, as my policy will cover everything except for ice. I was sure to get extra coverage, which I find out means if terrorists or aliens attack, or a plane lands in the front room, or a Tyrannasaurus Rex steps on the house, or whatever. I am pretty devastated about it all. Yeah. Thank you for your concern.

Excuse me, BoogieManHater, but we, including Teresa, have been having an ongoing conversation for a couple of days now. All of us have "not been here" many times. We respond to questions after we have returned.

ANTIOCH, Calif. -- The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department said it has gotten calls about people trespassing on the Antioch property of kidnapping suspects Phillip and Nancy Garrido.

Sheriff's spokesman Jimmie Lee said a call came in at about 12:38 p.m. Sunday about five men and one woman in the couple's back yard. He said a neighbor yelled at them and they ran off.

Later that day, deputies got a call about "two carloads of kids" who were also trespassing, so deputies went out to the Garridos' home. Lee said as far as officials can tell, nothing was taken from the area.

Another call about trespassing on the Garrido property was reported on Sept. 1, Lee said.

Lee said he is thankful for the neighbors who are keeping watch.

Phillip Garrido, 58, and his wife, 54-year-old Nancy, have pleaded not guilty to 29 counts of kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment in the disappearance of Jaycee Lee Dugard.

Police said the Garridos held Dugard captive in a backyard encampment of tents and sheds.

Dugard was abducted in 1991 from her bus stop in South Lake Tahoe.

What "bed" did she make, Teresa? You want "no part" of it, so you let your sock puppets do your dirty work? :-) Come on, now. Your antics are much too transparent!:-)

Thanks for the site Dr. Webb.

Denise, I am very sorry for all the damage your property sustained and for the hardship it and the storm damage have caused you and will cause you. As they say, "When it rains, it pours." Let's hope that this applies to good things as well as bad ones, and that while you're going through a bad "pour" now, you'll go through a good one soon and get back on your feet. In the meantime, continue to be the best person you can be here and everywhere.
