Coonhound, when I wrote that comment, I didn't perceive anyone to be overreacting to the sketchy details Denise had furnished as of that time. I was cautioning myself and the rest of us to get more facts before we jumped to conclusions about who the girl was and whether her death was unnatural and we reacted emotionally. I was not chastising anyone or accusing anyone of anything. Coonhound, I explained why I called the stories boring. I wasn't speaking for myself. I don't think I would have find them boring. Maybe Goblinbee didn't either even if she did fiund it difficult to focus on their "rambling" nature. But when I read her comment, I had the impression that she found them boring TO HER at that time, not that she devalued the people telling them or devalued their struggles with addiction.
In retrospect, I shouldn't have used that word, both because it was interpreted by one or more people as characterizing what I thought their stories were, and I shouldn't have meant to characterize Goblinbee's impression of her experience in that manner without being sure that WAS her impression.

I think all of the crying that I was doing when I read his comment maybe helped him to delete it more rapidly also. Because you cannot imagine how those words made me feel. They killed me inside.

I'm taking 300 mg of Clindamycin 3X a day to clean up the infection that prompted the extraction. From one I understand, this is one of the most potent antibiotics in the medical arsenal, and it has a nasty tendency to wipe out most intestinal bacteria, including the good kinds, and leave certain not-so-good kinds behind without any opposition. This can allow them to multiply wildly and take control and wreak havoc on the alimentary system resulting in chronic diarrhea sometimes leading to long term colitis and even life threatening GI disorders.
I've suffered no such effects this early on, but sometimes these problems don't arise until even after the antibiotic has been discontinued.
In short, it's not nice to fool with Mother Nature in the gut unless it's absolutely necessary. I guess it was necessary in my case, because I certainly don't want to suffer the dangerous effects of a deep seated infection in my jaw and beyond, but I also don't want serious GI problems either. And I'm concerned about it.
Ok, I understand now. Eat yogurt, my friend. It helps to replenish the "good" bacteria.

I've heard that for years, especially about the so-called "probiotic" varieties. And there are also probiotic capsules one can take. They're laced with the "good" bacteria. Their efficacy is not solidly substantiated by medical research, but I went ahead and bought a bottle of them last night anyway and began taking them this morning. I'll also be eating lots of cottage cheese and yogurt.
"Peruvian prince" is a nice touch, Coonhound. I hope everything works out well. I could interject a mildly cautionary note, but I suspect that it would fall on deaf or resistantly hostile ears, so I'll keep my mouth shut about that. :-)

An advantage of being a common person - by a "common person", I mean someone who is not a judge, prosecutor, or police officer - is that the common person has a right to be angry about perpetrators of certain crimes, for example, those hurting defenseless children or elderly. A judge can impose a death sentence but has no right to express his/her anger towards the accused.
As I might have mentioned before, I am not a fan of medieval justice or some kind of holy inquisition. However, in the old times, the severity of punishment was commensurate with brutality of the crime. And I find that fair.

You are right, Coonhound - that's what I said. I would add that the saw in the museum and the description of its use looked so real I nearly threw up the delicious Czech cuisine I ate before :)) - it had to be a pretty powerful deterrent for the most heinous criminals.
If you looked at my later post, though, you would see I haven't lost my faith in the modern justice - I just find it very hard to seat a jury panel for Garrido trial because so many people hate him. However... maybe, the investigators will actually link some dead bodies to Garrido while the lawyers are questioning the prospective jurors.

I understand your point, Goblinbee, but it's difficult for me to see what these Gordon Gekkos do as anything other than financial rape of the people. Indeed, from my perspective, applying the word to these Wall Street and other financial sector as*holes not only doesn't "water down" the term but augments its severity when applied to cases of literal rape.
Both the literal and figurative forms of rape are despicable, and their perpetrators ought to be regarded and treated accordingly.

I have errands to run too this morning. But let me say something before I leave that may shed some light on why I wrote of the figurative "rape? perpetrated by the financial sector.
Over the weekend, I watched a film about Enron and the havoc they wreaked on California by their depraved actions. I was particularly infuriated by recordings of some of their "brokers" or whatever they were called who were joking and laughing uproariously about "old grandmothers" having to go without power and air conditioning in the sweltering summer unless they paid their share of the inflated energy prices caused by Enron's manipulations.
A couple of days later, I read that the APR on my credit card issued by one of the biggest recipients of the recent bailout are almost doubling for everyone. This comes in the wake of almost having ALL my APR's doubled after I was inadvertently late with only one payment after over 20 years of being a loyal customer to this institution. Then I read about mostly Republicans watering down a bill in Congress to give the government more regulatory power over the financial "industry" in order to protect consumers from shady lending practices. Then I hear about Wall Street bailout firms continuing to give out huge bonuses and send high paid lobbyists to Washington to dissuade Congress from enacting laws against this. And then I read the article that I quoted from last night, and, yes, I felt furious and DID see what's going on in the financial sector as a kind of "rape" of the American people every bit as destructive to society overall if not far more so than the actions of a comparatively small number of pedophiles and other sex offenders.
So, be "taken back" with me all you want, but maybe you should be more taken back with the culture of greed that has utterly taken over our society and which threatens to destroy us as a nation as well as our individual souls.
