"In general, the U.S. courts have held that the press has a "watchdog" role over government and is not subject to prior restraint or registration. On the other hand, defamation, obscenity and publication of national-security secrets have been generally determined not eligible for protection under the First Amendment. "

It's amazing what governments can stop being published under the guise of "national security"

So, if the government is suppressing "the truth" about 9/11, why are all these websites and videos around that Brenda pointed us to? Because our demonic government knows they're so ridiculous that it has nothing to worry about?

Also try researching who actually owns the media.
Rupert Murdoch in particular.
They mainly control what is published and it certainly wouldn't be published if it wasn't in their interest to do so.

No, it's because they just haven't yet found an effective way to control the internet.
They certainly are trying hard though.

Steve said...

So, why don't we have more of our great engineers and scientists and investigative journalists coming out on the Internet that the government can't suppress yet and presenting the "facts"?

FYI Tara, re: "defamation, obscenity and publication of national-security secrets have been generally determined not eligible for protection under the First Amendment. "

This is not altogether true. For several years LV cops have been busting and throwing in jail citizens that call them, the cops, pigs, f'ers, or anything else. They knew they were not allowed to but did it anyway. Finally someone hired an attorney. Most did not because it was like a night in jail or a ticket fee to get out. The Supreme Court held, this was a violation of freedom of speech. The LV Metro Police Department is being investigated. Citizens may be compensated for the troubles they incurred.

Another point can be made from this. What people do not know, can hurt them!!!!

What I was referring to was the government being able to control the publishing media by citing "national security" as a reason for not publishing.

Have YOU? Can you truthfully tell me that the Internet reports that almost all leading scientists and engineers who have studied this agree with Brenda? Can you truthfully tell me that many respected investigative journalists and scholars have reported on the Internet that there is overwhelming evidence that our government was involved in the mass destruction and death of 9/11?

No I can't but at least I am open-minded and concerned enough to try to find out for myself, by further research, and to decide what I think is true or otherwise.

The knower and the known are one. Simple people imagine that they should see God, as if he stood there and they here. This is not so. God and I, we are one in knowledge.
– Meister Eckhart

In order to say that there is no one in our deeper consciousness, we have to go there, knock on the door, and find that no one is at home. Until he has made that journey, knocked on the door, and heard a voice saying “There is no one here,” no one should call himself an atheist. “Agnostic” is more correct.

Of those who tell me they are atheists, I ask, “Don’t you believe in yourself?”

Their answer is, “Of course.”

“Then,” I say, “you believe in God.”

When we use terms like “God” or “Lord” it is not referring to someone “out there.” We are invoking someone who is inside us all the time, who is nearer to us than our body, dearer to us than our life.

"what the threat actually is to them to prevent them from publishing some of these things, but also only reporting negative crud such as murders, rapes, robberies, etc."

let me ask you this do you think it is coincidental that we are conditioned to hear violent acts on TV all the time that our video games are very violent. We have constant reality TV which is drama we are being conditioned for violence.. Its making it okay to see and hear on TV every day..which subconsciously makes a person able to deal with it more in reality. I dont think majority of these reporters are intentionally not reporting this either.. which Nag seems to think no reporters have reported this yet this has been in the newspapers and other news since 9/11 occurred as well as all the Bush families political and money ties.. its like everyone turned a blind eye to it at that time we were going from terror alert red to yellow then back to red then yellow for 4 years?!!?!?!? These things to me are not coincidental..

"how is free speech not recognized as it relates to exposing the government for anything?"

It is considered unpatriotic to do so I was watching fox news the other day about the g20 protestors and the fox news guy said they were unpatriotic to be against a couple issues concerning pres. Obama.. Here is where we are now since 9/11 if you do not agree your a terrorist your unpatriotic you dont love America this has been pushed and pushed since 9/11 and also to make the citizen of America slowly not realize their rights were being taking away from them with the Patriot Act under the assumption of the terror... this is to me not coincidental.. None of these things are..

What's "ridiculous" about it, Brenda?

"I dont care about your points anymore they have 0 merit with me or credibilty and I am sure others that read this feel the same way.."

Of course, Brenda. Only "points" that agree with your one-sided reading of so-called "facts" will receive any serious consideration from you. You've made that very clear. Only nutjobs and nutcakes who say our government conspired with Islamic terrorists to kill thousands of our own people and destroy billions of dollars worth of our property in an amazingly well-coordinated attack of kamikazee airliners and plastic explosives to give it the only justification it could have ever obtained to attack Iraq and then that it managed to conceal all of this from the American public over all this time will have any credibility with you who also believe in ET visitations, Big Foot, and countless satanic conspiracies to engulf the world in unprecedented evil. And you think I give a "rat's ass" about what YOU think of me and my points? :-)

Hell, it took me three or four times to patiently explain to you how I wasn't accusing you of being a conspirator when it shouldn't have had to be explained even once to anyone with the reading comprehension of a fourth grader. No, make that a third grader.

Anonymous said...

That unpatriotic statement didn't get them anywhere. Everyone was talking about that at work. I do not believe they gained any points for that crud at all either.

What is sad is that I think the media gives the public what they want too. I mean in order to get the advertisers (the Money) they have to make sure people are watching.... so they put on what people want to hear... or, should I say what they think people want to hear. I get so angry sometimes, especially with CNN. They never have anything positive. It is all murder, rape and other violence.

The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord.
– Proverbs

"Clay lamps are still used today in India, where they are lit and placed in an alcove of the shrine. Since there is no wind in the protected niche, the tongue of the flame burns without a flicker.

In the depths of your meditation, when you are concentrating on an inspirational passage such as the Prayer of Saint Francis, your mind will be like the tongue of flame in a windless place – motionless and steady. At that time you will be concentrating completely on the words of the prayer, which means that you are slowly becoming like Saint Francis in your daily conduct and consciousness. It requires enormous endeavor to do this, but through ceaseless effort every one of us can reach the state in which the mind, like the flame of the clay lamp, does not flicker or waver at all."

A Faith Declaration for Health-Care Reform
(Part 1)
"There is no one “right” religious position on how health care should be provided. But I believe there are some fundamental moral and biblical principles on which to evaluate any final legislative agreement, principles on which many people of faith -- even politically diverse people -- might agree. After the heat of the summer’s confrontations over health care, it’s time for a cooler fall debate. It’s time for a re-set of the health-care debate, and a return to some basic principles could help.

Five Principles of Faith for Health-Care Reform

1. Health, not sickness, is the will of God. We can see this from the story in Genesis of the garden, where sickness was never found, and from the vision in Revelation of a city in which death will be no more. When we are instruments of bringing about that good health, we are doing the work of God. The gospel stories of Jesus healing people, of restoring them to physical wholeness and full participation in their community, always signaled God’s presence.
2. United we stand, divided we fall. The division between those who can afford adequate coverage and those who cannot is a threat to our unity, to the health of our neighbors, and to our nation. 46 million people in our country are uninsured, and millions more who are insured still can’t keep up with their bills. Our moral and religious standards say no one should be left out of a system simply because of not being able to afford good health. The common good requires a system that is accessible to all who need it."
--Jim Wallis (Sojourners)

Steve said...

(Part 2)

"3. Patients not profits. No one should be discriminated against in their health care because they are sick. Our faith mandates that we give extra consideration and help to those who are sick, but every time an insurance company denies coverage for “pre-existing conditions,” excluded ailments, or confusing fine print, their profits go up. Every doctor I know decided to pursue medicine to help people. Many insurance companies make a profit by not helping people, but our faith requires it.
4. Life and liberty must both be protected. The health-care system should protect the sanctity and dignity of life in accordance with existing law and the current rules, and the prohibition on federal funding of abortions should be consistently and diligently applied to any legislation. Strong “conscience” protections should be enacted for health-care workers to ensure they have the liberty to exercise their moral and religious beliefs in their profession. Evidence suggests that supporting low-income and pregnant women with adequate health care increases the number of women who chose to carry their child to term -- if we reform health care in the right way, we can reduce abortions in the U.S. While religious people don’t all agree on all the issues of abortion, we should agree that those differences must not be allowed to derail the crucial need for comprehensive health-care reform.
5. For the next generation, health-care reform should be based on firm financial foundations. Health care is a vital and wise investment for the future of our families and society. But the way we pay for it should be fair and equitable and seek to lessen the burden on succeeding generations -- both in bringing everyone into the system and by bringing the costs of health care under control over time. Our religious traditions suggest that social justice and fiscal responsibility must not be pitted against each other, but balanced together in sound public policy that is affordable for individuals and for society.

So let us have the moral dialogue and debate -- let’s take the best of who we are, the greatest parts of our tradition, and use that to lead the way. The misinformation, falsehoods, and outright lies that have been circulating obscure the moral and religious core of this debate: that millions of people are suffering in an inequitable and inefficient health-care system, and that too many powerful people are profiting from that broken system in defiance of the common good. Perhaps the faith community could help model a more civil debate and find the sensible moral center that will help the country find the best solutions to the health of the nation."
--Jim Wallis (Sojourners)

If the media would just behave themselves and stop being so noisy in the Courtroom the Court can allow this trial to be broadcast by the media.

2009 California Rules of Court

Rule 1.150. Photographing, recording, and broadcasting in court

(a) Introduction

The judiciary is responsible for ensuring the fair and equal administration of justice. The judiciary adjudicates controversies, both civil and criminal, in accordance with established legal procedures in the calmness and solemnity of the courtroom. Photographing, recording, and broadcasting of courtroom proceedings may be permitted as circumscribed in this rule if executed in a manner that ensures that the fairness and dignity of the proceedings are not adversely affected. This rule does not create a presumption for or against granting permission to photograph, record, or broadcast court proceedings.

(Subd (a) adopted effective January 1, 1997.)

(b) Definitions

As used in this rule:

(1)"Media coverage" means any photographing, recording, or broadcasting of court proceedings by the media using television, radio, photographic, or recording equipment.

(2)"Media" or "media agency" means any person or organization engaging in news gathering or reporting and includes any newspaper, radio or television station or network, news service, magazine, trade paper, in-house publication, professional journal, or other news-reporting or news-gathering agency.

(3)"Court" means the courtroom at issue, the courthouse, and its entrances and exits.

(4)"Judge" means the judicial officer or officers assigned to or presiding at the proceeding, except as provided in (e)(1) if no judge has been assigned.

(5)"Photographing" means recording a likeness, regardless of the method used, including by digital or photographic methods. As used in this rule, photographing does not include drawings or sketchings of the court proceedings.

(6)"Recording" means the use of any analog or digital device to aurally or visually preserve court proceedings. As used in this rule, recording does not include handwritten notes on the court record, whether by court reporter or by digital or analog preservation.

(7)"Broadcasting" means a visual or aural transmission or signal, by any method, of the court proceedings, including any electronic transmission or transmission by sound waves.

(Subd (b) amended effective January 1, 2007; adopted as subd (a) effective July 1, 1984; previously amended and relettered as subd (b) effective January 1, 1997; previously amended effective January 1, 2006.)

(c) Photographing, recording, and broadcasting prohibited

Anonymous said...

Except as provided in this rule, court proceedings may not be photographed, recorded, or broadcast. This rule does not prohibit courts from photographing or videotaping sessions for judicial education or publications and is not intended to apply to closed-circuit television broadcasts solely within the courthouse or between court facilities if the broadcasts are controlled by the court and court personnel.

(Subd (c) amended effective January 1, 2006; adopted effective January 1, 1997.)

(d) Personal recording devices

The judge may permit inconspicuous personal recording devices to be used by persons in a courtroom to make sound recordings as personal notes of the proceedings. A person proposing to use a recording device must obtain advance permission from the judge. The recordings must not be used for any purpose other than as personal notes.

(Subd (d) amended effective January 1, 2007; adopted as subd (c) effective July 1, 1984; previously amended and relettered as subd (d) effective January 1, 1997; previously amended effective January 1, 2006.)

(e) Media coverage

Media coverage may be permitted only on written order of the judge as provided in this subdivision. The judge in his or her discretion may permit, refuse, limit, or terminate media coverage. This rule does not otherwise limit or restrict the right of the media to cover and report court proceedings.

(1)Request for order

The media may request an order on Media Request to Photograph, Record, or Broadcast (form MC-500). The form must be filed at least five court days before the portion of the proceeding to be covered unless good cause is shown. A completed, proposed order on Order on Media Request to Permit Coverage (form MC-510) must be filed with the request. The judge assigned to the proceeding must rule on the request. If no judge has been assigned, the request will be submitted to the judge supervising the calendar department, and thereafter be ruled on by the judge assigned to the proceeding. The clerk must promptly notify the parties that a request has been filed.

(2)Hearing on request

The judge may hold a hearing on the request or may rule on the request without a hearing.

(3)Factors to be considered by the judge

In ruling on the request, the judge is to consider the following factors:

(A)The importance of maintaining public trust and confidence in the judicial system;

(B)The importance of promoting public access to the judicial system;

(C)The parties' support of or opposition to the request;

(D)The nature of the case;

(E)The privacy rights of all participants in the proceeding, including witnesses, jurors, and victims;

(F)The effect on any minor who is a party, prospective witness, victim, or other participant in the proceeding;

(G)The effect on the parties' ability to select a fair and unbiased jury;

(H)The effect on any ongoing law enforcement activity in the case;

(I)The effect on any unresolved identification issues;

(J)The effect on any subsequent proceedings in the case;

(K)The effect of coverage on the willingness of witnesses to cooperate, including the risk that coverage will engender threats to the health or safety of any witness;

(L)The effect on excluded witnesses who would have access to the televised testimony of prior witnesses;

(M)The scope of the coverage and whether partial coverage might unfairly influence or distract the jury;

(N)The difficulty of jury selection if a mistrial is declared;

(O)The security and dignity of the court;

(P)Undue administrative or financial burden to the court or participants;

(Q)The interference with neighboring courtrooms;

Anonymous said...

(R)The maintenance of the orderly conduct of the proceeding; and

(S)Any other factor the judge deems relevant.

(4)Order permitting media coverage

The judge ruling on the request to permit media coverage is not required to make findings or a statement of decision. The order may incorporate any local rule or order of the presiding or supervising judge regulating media activity outside of the courtroom. The judge may condition the order permitting media coverage on the media agency's agreement to pay any increased court-incurred costs resulting from the permitted media coverage (for example, for additional court security or utility service). Each media agency is responsible for ensuring that all its media personnel who cover the court proceeding know and follow the provisions of the court order and this rule.

(5)Modified order

The order permitting media coverage may be modified or terminated on the judge's own motion or on application to the judge without the necessity of a prior hearing or written findings. Notice of the application and any modification or termination ordered under the application must be given to the parties and each media agency permitted by the previous order to cover the proceeding.

(6)Prohibited coverage

The judge may not permit media coverage of the following:

(A)Proceedings held in chambers;

(B)Proceedings closed to the public;

(C)Jury selection;

(D)Jurors or spectators; or

(E)Conferences between an attorney and a client, witness, or aide; between attorneys; or between counsel and the judge at the bench.

(7)Equipment and personnel

The judge may require media agencies to demonstrate that proposed personnel and equipment comply with this rule. The judge may specify the placement of media personnel and equipment to permit reasonable media coverage without disruption of the proceedings.

(8)Normal requirements for media coverage of proceedings

Unless the judge in his or her discretion orders otherwise, the following requirements apply to media coverage of court proceedings:

(A)One television camera and one still photographer will be permitted.

(B)The equipment used may not produce distracting sound or light. Signal lights or devices to show when equipment is operating may not be visible.

(C)An order permitting or requiring modification of existing sound or lighting systems is deemed to require that the modifications be installed, maintained, and removed without public expense or disruption of proceedings.

(D)Microphones and wiring must be unobtrusively located in places approved by the judge and must be operated by one person.

(E)Operators may not move equipment or enter or leave the courtroom while the court is in session, or otherwise cause a distraction.

(F)Equipment or clothing must not bear the insignia or marking of a media agency.

(9)Media pooling

If two or more media agencies of the same type request media coverage of a proceeding, they must file a joint statement of agreed arrangements. If they are unable to agree, the judge may deny media coverage by that type of media agency.

(Subd (e) amended effective January 1, 2007; adopted as subd (b) effective July 1, 1984; previously amended and relettered as subd (e) effective January 1, 1997; previously amended effective January 1, 2006.)

(f) Sanctions

Any violation of this rule or an order made under this rule is an unlawful interference with the proceedings of the court and may be the basis for an order terminating media coverage, a citation for contempt of court, or an order imposing monetary or other sanctions as provided by law.

(Subd (f) amended and relettered as subd (f) effective January 1, 1997; adopted as subd (e) effective July 1, 1984.)

Rule 1.150 amended and renumbered effective January 1, 2007; adopted as rule 980 effective July 1, 1984; previously amended effective January 1, 1997, and January 1, 2006.

Sheriff: Bones at Garrido home buried long ago

(AP) – 15 hours ago

ANTIOCH, Calif. — The Contra Costa County Sheriff's office said Friday that bone fragments dug up from the backyard of kidnapping suspect Phillip Garrido's home and a neighboring property probably belonged to American Indians buried a long time ago.

Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said that while scientists at a state forensics lab were unable to pull any DNA from the bones, an anthropologist concluded the fragments were likely human, but probably old.

Investigators uncovered the bones while searching for evidence in the kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard, as well as other unsolved abductions and murders.

Garrido and his wife, Nancy, have been charged with kidnapping and rape in Dugard's 18-year disappearance.

Lee said investigators are looking into reports that Phillip Garrido was seen before his arrest with two young girls who were not the daughters he fathered with Dugard. The information came from someone who knew Garrido, but so far detectives have not found any evidence to corroborate the sighting.

Anyone who may have seen Garrido recently in the company of two girls about 6- or 7-years-old should contact the Sheriff's office, Lee said.

I cannot find a way to sort missing children by age range in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. I am so hoping the Sheriff's and or Police Department who took the tip that Garrido was seen with two 6 or 7 year olds presented missing children pictures for the informant to look through.

Interesting however, I did find at least 20 missing and runaway children since early August.

Attempted Kidnapping at Jaycee Dugard's Former Elementary School

District officials say it may have been the case of a copycat. Tuesday afternoon, a strange woman went to Jaycee Dugard's old elementary school in Meyers, and tried to kidnap a six-year-old girl.

The principal says the little girl even looks like Jaycee Dugard. She is blonde, just six years old, and vulnerable. But school officials say Jaycee Dugard's story is what helped keep the girl safe.

Father of three, Kris James says he's been extra protective since the attempted abduction on Tuesday.

"Our kids normally take the bus, but we don't leave them at the bus stop. We sit there and wait with them until they're on the bus," said James.

The Superintendent of Lake Tahoe Schools, Jim Tarwater says the near-kidnapping was a complete shock. It happened just a few feet from a memory garden planted when Jaycee Dugard disappeared, a pink butterfly painted there in her honor.

"Here we just went through this and already, someone is attempting to take a kid. Uh-uh," said Tarwater.

Tarwater says a strange woman walked up to a wooded path near the school and right up to the front door. She told the little girl her parents had sent her to pick her up. but the first grader didn't fall for it. Tarwater says the child firmly said no and the woman disappeared back into the woods where she came from.

"She did what she was supposed to. Stranger Danger, A Fighting Chance, these programs do make a difference. Parents, because of Jaycee, this is what I'm really proud of: They talk to their kids," said Tarwater.

James says even though his kids are all under nine years old, he feels none of them are naive about strangers.

"Run and tell somebody. (Why?) So you don't get captured," said kindergarten student, Bryce James.

The superintendent says the Tahoe community will remain vulnerable. It's a mountain town, a thoroughfare, and an area brightly lit by the national spotlight.

"I think it lets us know we are never to turn our backs on this. We always have to be vigilant in watching our children in the community," said Tarwater.

The superintendent says its possible the woman who attempted the kidnapping is a South Lake Tahoe resident because mostly just locals are familiar with the path she walked up on to get onto campus. He suggests all Tahoe parents to keep an eye out for their kids and others, and make sure to remind them about what to do if someone they don't know approaches them.

South Lake Tahoe Police say there was another possible attempted kidnapping at Tahoe Valley Elementary School--also on Tuesday. They say a man and woman asked a student through a fence for help finding a dog they were missing. The child quickly told a teacher. It's unknown at this time whether the two incidents were related, or if the pair were really looking for their dog.

Me and my daughter live right down the street and yes this happened I got a call form the sheriffs office well we all did in this area warning us... it was a well dressed woman another women that tried to take her and her big brother walked up and saved her... I just cant believe this.

Good morning, Brenda.

Good Morning BrendaStar: It took them long enough to report it. How will that help catch the perpetrator?

I keep looking for more information regarding the two 6 or 7 year olds seen with Garrido. This is very scary. Maybe he was in one of those rings of pedophiles and had others stashed other places with more children. Anything is possible with this creep. One has to know the two years between the time he got out and the time he kidnapped Jaycee he was committing other crimes. I mean after 11 years in prison, and his perpetual sex first need. GEEEEZ, it is just such a strong gut feeling there is a lot more to this and other missing children.

Law enforcement has beefed-up its presence at Lake Tahoe Unified schools after a stranger tried to lure a 6-year-old from the Environmental Magnet School in Meyers on Tuesday.

The mother of the child did not report the incident to authorities until Wednesday.

El Dorado County sheriff’s officials distributed a flyer that all kids were to take home on Thursday.

“This little girl did great for her age,” sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Underhill said.

When the woman approached her, saying her mom said to go with her, the child said no, that she was waiting for her 8-year-old brother. Her brother walked up about that time and the woman leftou

Underhill said the woman drove off in a small green car headed toward San Bernardino Street.

The suspect is described as white, with black curly bushy hair, blue eyes, pierced ears, approximately 5-foot-5, with a medium build. She was wearing a white tank top, brown shorts and white tennis shoes.

“We encourage parents to report things as soon as possible because if they think something is wrong, there probably is. It allows us to act sooner,” Lt. Les Lovell said. “If we don’t get the information quickly, it handcuffs us.”

The school district is advising students not to walk alone or to leave campus with a stranger.

For many, this brings back the horror of Jacycee Lee Dugard being plucked from a bus stop in June 1991 as she waited to go to the Meyers elementary school. Dugard was found alive in August in Antioch. Her suspected abductors are behind bars in Placerville.

Anyone with information pertaining to this week’s incident should call the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department at (530) 573.3002 or (530) 573.3300.

I wonder how much time before the FBI gets the results of the DNA testing from the first bones found in the neighbor's property. They knew something, they had some information that they should dig in the neighbor's yard, other than that Garrido lived in the shed over there for a while.

im curious too about these other reports of him with other young girls prior to Jaycee being found...

i am also concerned about the rise of women predators. or has it always been this bad?

I don't buy it either. I think the can get her to talk without giving her to much of a break. But having an attorney, she may just get some sort of break. No matter, her time will not be easy to say the least, no matter how much information she gives.

I was looking at the Court records, The appointed Dr. Eugene Roeter to evaluate P. Garrido, but N. Garrido's attorney only reserved the right to have her evaluated. I think this is a sign that she is talking.

I have to say, if her attorney is worth a grain of salt. N. Garrido will only be giving up information on this case. There is no way he can cut a big enough deal for her if she admits to other crimes. Except.... on thought crosses my mind. They have both already admitted to the crime. Even though they both pled not guilty, if this is allowed in, they are already cooked, however, but if so, there is nothing for N. Garrido to give information on. They will both be sentenced to hell and back again.... but, if N. Garrido did give up other crime information, that would help her, so maybe we will get something. Only time will tell.

"Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.

"To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

"But I also know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women, and all Americans, want to build -- a world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents. And I know that throughout history, the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes. And that is why I will accept this award as a call to action -- a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century."

In a world where war criminals like Tony Blair are rewarded and those that oppose war criminals, like the Iraqi shoe thrower Muntadhar al-Zeidi, are imprisoned and tortured, it comes as no surprise that another war criminal – Barack H. Obama – has been rewarded for his stoic service to imperial bloodletting with the Nobel Peace Prize.

The man who gallantly promised “change” from the Bush regime’s illegal wars and a return to diplomacy over belligerency in dealing with Iran, has perpetuated the illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq while expanding another in Pakistan and becoming belligerent towards Iran.

How in anyone’s mind can such behavior constitute a move towards peace?

Obama has done nothing to dismantle the sprawling network of well over 700 U.S. military bases all over the world.

Instead of coming to an understanding with Iran over their nuclear power program, Obama gleefully read from his trusty teleprompter and crafted the hoax that the Iranian nuclear facility at Qom was an evil secret that the Iranians had kept hidden from America as part of a clandestine agenda to build nuclear weapons. In reality, Iran had followed precisely the guidelines set out by the IAEA on when to report the facility and the U.S. had known about it for several years anyway.

Obama’s slick propaganda in expressing his shock at the “discovery” of the plant was worthy of an Oscar but not a Nobel Peace Prize, since the scam has increased the likelihood of sanctions on Iran that will only accelerate the path to war.

By dutifully playing his part in this contrived hoax, Obama was mimicking the tactics of how George W. Bush sold the attack on Iraq.

As Paul Craig Roberts wrote, “By accusing Iran of having a secret “nuclear weapons program” and demanding that Iran “come clean” about the nonexistent program, adding that he does not rule out a military attack on Iran, Obama mimics the discredited Bush regime’s use of nonexistent Iraqi “weapons of mass destruction” to set up Iraq for invasion.”

BrendaStar said...

The fact that Obama launched himself into the role of war hawk in an effort to propagandize for belligerency towards Iran completely discredits the claim by Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland that Obama “Has been a key person for important initiatives in the U.N. for nuclear disarmament and to set a completely new agenda for the Muslim world and East-West relations.”

Obama’s acting skills in front of a teleprompter and his slick rhetoric about peace and diplomacy may look good on the surface, but the reality of what he has actually done to further the PNAC agenda for endless war underlines why the award of the Peace Prize is a sick joke.

If Obama intended to bring peace to the world, then why were his early appointments mostly neo-liberal war hawks who have a history of backing military adventurism?

If Obama is such a huge peacenik, then why has he sent 21,000 more troops to Afghanistan already, with tens of thousands more at least on the way?

If Obama plans to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq and bring peace to the region, then why has he gone back on his promise and ensured that tens of thousands of U.S. troops will remain in the country?

If Obama is so deserving of being recognized for his efforts towards peace, then why has he intensified the Bush-era missile drone attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan that have killed and injured countless innocent civilians?

If Obama is so interested in promoting peace, then why does he protect war criminals who have violated the Geneva Conventions from prosecution?

Beyond the meaningless platitudes served up by his fellow elitist snobs, the true hilarity of Obama receiving the prize was illustrated by just a couple of individuals who the corporate media dared to quote.

Issam al-Khazraji, a day laborer in Baghdad, told Reuters: “He doesn’t deserve this prize. All these problems — Iraq, Afghanistan — have not been solved…The man of ‘change’ hasn’t changed anything yet.”

“Liaqat Baluch, a senior leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, a conservative religious party in Pakistan, called the award an embarrassing “joke.”

“By implementing his war continuation plan, Obama will complete the work of Bush and his militarist clique,” writes author Chris Floyd, and in doing so send, “an apparently endless stream of American troops to die — and, in even greater numbers, to kill — in a criminal action that has helped bankrupt our own country while sending waves of violent instability and extremism around the world. It will further enfilth a cesspool of corruption and war profiteering that has already reached staggering, world-historical proportions.”

Floyd encapsulates perfectly why Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize award is a disgusting farce, an insult to those who really are fighting for peace in the world, and just another reminder that the Nobel Peace Prize represents little more than a gaggle of back-slapping elitists who bestow awards upon each other so that they can pose as global saviors to the public when in reality they are mostly a bunch of crooks, con-artists and deceivers.

Hello YouAreSuchAFreak, and Hello BrendaStar.

Nice and quiet in here today I see. I tried to come see what was happening last night, but ran out of minutes on my air card.

That is cute and funny about Mike digging worms for my little chick YouAreSuchAFreak. I would be surprised if chicky ate them LOL. Thanks for taking him in for me.

It's kind of late, and I just got home after being up for almost 24 hours so I thought I would just say hello and hit the sack. Tomorrow is definitely a lounging day so I'll probably be seeing you.

We must have had a dust storm or something YouAreSuchAFreak (?) It is pretty dusty in here.

Hey BrendaStar, I saw that link you posted the other night re: 9/11 and Enron... I'll probably watch it tomorrow and talk to you then if you are on.

"I'd rather Obama had won it after Congress agreed to substantial cuts in greenhouse gases comparable to what Europe is proposing, after he brought Palestinians and Israelis together to accept a two-state solution, after he got the United States out of Afghanistan and reduced the nuclear arms threat between Pakistan and India, or after he was well on the way to eliminating the world's stockpile of nuclear weapons. Any one of these would have been worthy of global praise. Perhaps the Nobel committee can give him half the prize now and withhold the other half until he accomplishes one or more of these crucial missions."

This is never ending. I just watched The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It was a sick reminder of what happens when we let this evil people live.

Phillip Garrido Created His Own Elementary School in 2006

School BusNormally Antioch schools are at the top of their class, but one local school has turned out to be every parents worst nightmare. In 2006, a quick background check on the Phillip C. Knight Institute wouldn’t have turned up much information, but it turns out that it was being run by none other than Phillip Garrido.

That’s right folks, the same guy who admitted to visiting local elementary schools just so that he could masturbate was able to get a business license to run his own elementary school just outside of Antioch. While there is no evidence to suggest that Garrido ever enrolled students in the school, the mere existence of the business license raises troubling questions about the safety of California’s private school system.

According to the Contra Costa County recorder’s office, Garrido filed two applications for his school. The first was filed on Jan 31, 2006 and used the name of “The Phillip C Knight” for the business. In August, he filed a second application and used the name Phillip C Knight Institute.

Anonymous said...

One purpose of using the alias may have been to hide the fact that his private school was being run by a registered sex offender.

At the time of the business filing, Jaycee’s two children would have been 12 and 8 years old. While the exact nature of the “institute” isn’t known, there seems to be two different schools of thought on Garrido’s possible motivations. The first is almost too terrible to imagine, that he intended to run his own elementary school in order to groom future victims.

Given his religious beliefs, it’s not too difficult to imagine a scenario where he could have convinced followers to enroll their kids into an academy where he was head principal. The mere fact that he was able to get this kind of business permit to begin with raises some serious questions about what type of screening takes place, when someone wants to start their own private school in California. If sexual predators are able to get around the criminal background checks by starting their own business, what safeguards are in place to protect our children?

The second school of thought is that the “institute” was created as part of an attempt to legitimatize the home schooling of Jaycee’s two kids. Reports have already confirmed that Jaycee and her children never visited a doctor or attended a public school. Given his desire to keep the kids off the grid, we are a bit puzzled as to why he would take the steps to officially create the “home school” and then fail to register it with the State of California. According to their 2006-07 private school database, there is no record of the Phillip C. Knight Institute ever being listed. The idea of a ‘home school’ would be appealing to Garrido because it would limit the outside attention that a regular public school would bring. Pictures of the Garrido residence confirm that there were many books and instructional tools lying around the compound, so it’s possible that the DBA application was intended to get discounts on textbooks.

If Garrido established the school as a way to legally home school Jaycee’s kids, then it raises the disturbing question of why sexual predators would even be allowed to home school their kids to begin with. Don’t get me wrong, parents should absolutely have the right to teach their kids on their own, but we take away the right to vote and the right to own firearms from felons, so why would it be unreasonable to take away the right to home school from convicted sex offenders? Two years ago, home schooling was almost declared illegal in California after a father who was accused of being abusive to one of his kids was sued to make him put his kids back in school. The California supreme court eventually ruled that the State had the right to make this request, but that families still had the right to educate their own kids.

Why should it take years of litigation in order to prevent children from being locked into an abusive prison? Garrido’s case is clearly not the norm, but if he was able to create a legal home schooling entity, then something is clearly broken with the system. For the sake of parents who want to know that private schools are safe and for the kids who may be stuck in an abusive home schooling environment, there needs to be some ground rules in place for those who do want to engage in alternative education.

There should be rules that require background checks on people trying create private schools. People convicted of sex crimes should be barred from establishing their own private institutions. What about the whole home schooling industry? How is the government suppose to regulate what goes on behind closed doors? It’s obvious by looking at the Garrido case that the State needs to have more control and oversight of the home schooling industry.

Well the excuses that this passed any sort of security or background check is bullshit... The Fictitious Business name listed the business/school as Phillip C. Knight, but it was signed and entered in by PHILLIP GARRIDO. Bullshit that anyone is doing background checks. Media Bullshit!!!!

No apologies necessary Brenda. If nothing, this case definitely shows the full circle of our government's handling of rapists and pedophiles. I think there is going to be a lot more in the news about what else this man has gotten away with. He was on the sex offender registries when he applied for this School license. No wonder he boldly walked around with these little girls. He got away with everything, which means everyone else is also.

Anonymous said...

It is more and more on the rise because they get away with it, and many victims who have had to hide it become envisioned with it, and then many do the same. Whatever it takes, we need to wipe it out. It is not acceptable, and there should never be a second chance to any of them, and the fear of what will happen to anyone who does such things should be very well strong and known. I think Texas is right on with the death penalty for sex offenders.

BrendaStar said...

YouAreSuchAFreak,

I know, isn't' that something. So, now we have to ask ourselves, what makes them so brazen. Could it possibly be that they know the government, the law, has no handle on them, and it is easy to just go snatch a kid and get away with this. They know very well there is no punishment severe enough to stop them.

Anonymous said...

They laugh at the law, and at us for becoming so disgusted with the law.

You know it really angers me to about the media. They never give any news about anything but the negative crap like this. Yes, as a public need to know some of these things. Maybe we can do something about it, embarrass the legal system. But what is going to come from that. A few months of harder work until everyone calms down about it. But, what else. Isn't the media just teaching the pedophiles what to do and how to do it in order to get away with it. I mean they give every detail of what Garrido did, and that he managed to do it for 18 years. Of course there is going to be copycats.

How many will copycat if we start giving them the death penalty. Let the news talk about that for a change.

What kills me though is then they act so dumb how can this be? oh my gosh it happened again? they never ever say this is what we need to do people is lobby to change these laws or anything its never passionate and true reporting on TV thats why i read the news papers and articles still because you can still find good reporting in news papers and in articles in magazines.. I keep praying they come out like gangbusters and say "OK, we have learned, we are going to get on this" This placating the public saying they are doing an investigation, and then another entity saying they are doing an investigation x4 now is just a bunch of bull to placate us. What is to investigate. It is done the same everywhere. It doesn't work. You bitch and you bitch about not having the funds to do a good job. If there are no funds... where are you going to look for funds. How are you really going to put a stop to this? Investigate what, that you didn't search a field behind a house? Truly, who would have thought to do that.... except for the few calls that someone was living back there... which someone should have looked into... Years went by with out calls like this. Of course there will always be ways to hide things. An investigation is not the answer to the public people. Action is.

BrendaStar said...

We still have hope :) and that is good :) i need more coffee too i think i will do the same thing.

Have you noticed that the papers write about what the legal authorities and politicians always say they are doing, but noone ever follows up. I mean how many times (four) did they write another entity wanted a "full investigation" about this. How many times did they give the authorities an opportunity to say "so that we can learn to do a better job the next time". Did any reporter call them out on the carpet and say, "so tell us, what have you found, and what are you going to do about it to keep the public safe?"

Nope. It is just dropped.

BrendaStar, have you ever watched that movie: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas?

A Nazi Prison Camp official, whose son 7 or 8, does not know what the camp is, just that he is somewhere he is not suppose to be. Meets a Jewish boy about his age and becomes a friend of his, sneaking him food and to play with him on separate sides of the fence. Gets him in trouble one day and tries to make up for it by sneaking into the camp to help the Jewish boy find his father who has of course come up missing. He gets just a little bit of insight as to the what the camp really is, before he is rushed off with a group of Jewish men, women and children to the gas chamber.

Anonymous said...

I think watching that movie, and then reading today's article about Garrido's school business license is what set me off. Our country thankfully did help put an end to those crimes. Of course the crimes were numerous in comparison to Garrido, but isn't the concept the same? How is it that our country can intervene in the pain of other countries, but not their own?

BrendaStar said...

YouAreSuchAFreak,

No I have not but I will definitely watch that thank you.It is right up my alley :) it reminds me of a foreign film i love its called Life is Beautiful it is an Italian film and it is beautiful rent it if you have not seen please.. you will not be sorry and I will watch your movie... It is a love story in the beginning then they get taken away to a concentration camp husband wife and son and the father protects the son the whole time and it is a remarkable beautiful story..

BrendaStar said...

I can not give away the ending but the movie touched me a great deal.. if you dont mind subtitles its amazing really.

BrendaStar said...

its just a beautiful story of how people can be under the most extreme and horrible conditions and that people are still able to have hope and courage and love..

There is another story of Nancy Garrido being threatened again in today's Examiner.com. Makes me wonder what they are doing, the Examiner.com I mean. It is nothing more than the last report from 2 or 3 weeks ago. She was threatened and in isolation. So, should this have been written again, or is it just a ploy to get people to their website and start clicking on advertisements so they can make money. Obviously, if Nancy was already in isolation, then what threats could have been such new news?

BrendaStar said...

YouAreSuchAFreak,

I know really and isnt it apparent that she is going to get death threats what is really NEWS about that anyways..

This one? Life Is BeautifulLa Vita e Bella(1997) PG-13

In this poignant tragicomedy, a clever Jewish Italian waiter named Guido (Roberto Benigni, who also directs and won an Oscar for his role) is sent to a Nazi concentration camp during World War II, along with his wife (Nicoletta Braschi) and their young son (Giorgio Cantarini). Refusing to give up hope, Guido tries to protect his son's innocence by pretending that their imprisonment is an elaborate game, with the grand prize being a tank.

About the news and the articles. Something I read online was criticizing the National Enquirer or some other rag for stating that they had a picture of Jaycee and Jaycee's mom said that was not her. That made me think every time I go to the grocery store to look at their front pages while in the line. You are so correct about the percentage of people being so small for real news!!!! I cannot believe some of these rags are still in business, but people love this type of baloney lies about other people. They seem to feed on it. Another point to which Garrido cannot be called sick, it seems to be the norm to be a little off your rocker anymore.

"I think Texas is right on with the death penalty for sex offenders."

Aren't those who advocate capital punishment for child molestation and other sex offenses concerned that if a perpetrator knows s/he will be put to death if caught and convicted, s/he might conclude that there's nothing to lose and a lot to potentially gain from killing the victim afterward?

Anonymous said...

"...s/he might conclude that there's nothing to lose and a lot to potentially gain from killing the victim afterward?"

Nagarjuna, I worry about that also. Very scary.

Also, I've been thinking a bit about your Letterman questions. I'm not sure how much you are checking the other blog, so I will respond here. Our society has deemed money to have a powerful coercive/corruptive nature. There are a number of things that are legal under certain circumstances, but not others, the exchange of money being one of the mitigators(for many sexual encounters, or donating organs; I'm sure there are other examples). We have decided to say no to these exchanges by making them illegal. It is interesting where the line gets drawn, because you can certainly have a bake sale, you can bet at the races (but not with a bookie), you can go on Wheel of Fortune and win $30,000, etc. The "when you can and when you can't" do seem almost arbitrary.

denise said...

Nagarjuna said: "if a perpetrator knows s/he will be put to death if caught and convicted, s/he might conclude that there's nothing to lose and a lot to potentially gain from killing the victim afterward?"

But how can they conclude this, if like you say, they have a disease that they cannot control. An illness that makes their sick decisions for them. Also, criminals also know the consequences that they could face currently, if caught are not going to be enjoyable either. Yet they commit their crimes anyhow.

Steve said...

Goblinbee, you make an outstanding point that I hadn't even considered about how numerous acts that would otherwise be legal are illegal when overtly done for money.

As far as exchanging sex for money is concerned, I happen to tentatively believe that it along with blackmail should be legal. I say "tentatively," because I'm open to being persuaded otherwise by more powerful arguments than I've heard so far.

But it really does seem to me that if it's legal to do or not do something when one ISN'T paid for it, it should ALSO be legal to do or not do it when one IS paid for it.

By the way, I don't need to check my blogs directly to see when someone's commented on them. I'm notified of it by e-mail.

Speaking of my blogs, I hope you've checked out my new one discussing the free will vs determinism issue--"Freedom or Necessity?"

I am sorry David, but nothing belongs to that sick evil man anymore, not his thoughts that he owned Jaycee and her children, not his own life, and certainly not this blog. He lost his right to it, and we, the public, took it from him.

Anonymous said...

BrendaStar. I am trying to watch this video, but it is not professionally done. It jumps around and jumps around and is difficult to follow some of it.

The keep placing this man between segments cussing obscenities and showing his anger, but he doesn't get a complete thought out before the moderator jumps in to explain what the man is saying. It is not the best to learn from.

I do understand that some in the FBI had known about these Israli groups building up, and were trying to report to CIA and when not heard to WHO? But then gagged, by who? I also understand they were able to infiltrate trace, track, bug and grow within the US, going unnoticed for so long while they grew because they had 90% of the US' telephone billing trade and telephone access from Israel. ? Am I understanding this correctly? This is not a very good video for education. They just keep mixing a bunch of names and acts altogether and not really connecting the dots to one another.

Anonymous said...

Nagarjuna, the more I think about this topic, the more confused I get. It does seem that some legal codes are in place to safeguard the poor. Imagine a world where you could sell your kidneys; there would be entire countries of one-kidneyed people. The same seems true for sexually-prostituted people; mostly the poor would be (or are) exploited. They are currently exploited anyway, in low-paying jobs, etc., but we blanche at things that involve people's intimate spaces and internal organs.

Steve said...

"But how can they conclude this, if like you say, they have a disease that they cannot control. An illness that makes their sick decisions for them."

Denise, when I say that sickness made them do it, I'm using "sickness" loosely to mean a set of conditions causing the kind of behavior that most of us would consider sick. Virtually everyone here has condemned Garrido's acts as "sick," although most somehow and incongruously, in my opinion, manage to deny that the person who committed these "sick" acts must have been sick to commit them.

Be that as it may, I've never said that the "sickness" causing most child abuse and other sexual crimes leaves the afflicted person with the inability to think about what he's doing, plan it out, and try his best to avoid getting caught. Someone sick enough to seriously contemplate sexually abusing a child can usually think about how best to do it and avoid detection. And if he sickly calculates that he has nothing to lose from killing his victim, because the sentence is the same for molesting alone as it is for molesting and then killing, and that if he kills the primary or perhaps only witness to the crime, his chances of avoiding apprehension are significantly improved, he might very well sickly conclude that he's better off killing the victim.

"Also, criminals also know the consequences that they could face currently, if caught are not going to be enjoyable either. Yet they commit their crimes anyhow."

I would suggest that it's because their desire to commit the crime is stronger than external circumstances and internal mental processes inhibiting them from committing it. Perhaps the added consequence of the death penalty if they're caught and convicted for molesting AND killing their victim would be enough to override whatever desire they might have to kill their victim. And, I would suggest that the greater the difference between the penalty for molestation alone and molestation combined with murder, the greater the chance is that the perpetrator will not kill the victim after molesting her or him.

Ha!!!! BrendaStar, I finally saw some proof that Bush knew very well when he addressed the US that not even the US, noone could have imagine... we knew he hated us, nobody in our government at least, nor the prior government, could envision flying airplanes into buildings.... lies, lies, lies.... military did practice drills, fighting this same threat for at least two years because they knew of this threat.

I have heard this so many times, but this video does have military documentation showing this to be true.

Steve said...

"It does seem that some legal codes are in place to safeguard the poor. Imagine a world where you could sell your kidneys...we blanche at things that involve people's intimate spaces and internal organs."

You make another excellent point that may well reveal the limitations of the principle that anything that's legal when it's not done for money should be legal when it is done for money. I would certainly agree with those who think that people shouldn't be able to sell their organs because of the undue pressure this could exert on desperately poor people to seriously endanger their health and well-being (such as it is). And I suppose that the same argument could be made for sex work, although it's not invariably the case that sex workers are desperately poor.

I'm still inclined to think that sex workers ought to be able to ply their trade legally, although it should perhaps be regulated the way other professions are. But you've made me cognizant of the need to discover a compelling principle that separates sex work from selling one's organs.

DO YOU SERIOUSLY THINK IGNORING THIS AND WALKING AWAY IS THE ANSWER.

Doesn't this leave every responsible person off the hook for this crime growing and infecting the US. I do not mean just the pedoophiles, I mean the government whose responsibility it is to protect the citizens of the United States.

Boogie, I agree with you and disagree with David about continuing to post here. However, with all due respect, I've never understood your logic in insisting that you're performing some protective service by remaining here. If I understand you correctly, you believe that without the eternal vigilance of good people such yourself, hordes of pedophiles are going to come here and victimize unsuspecting innocents and their children. But I have to tell you that this just doesn't make any sense to me. It seems to me that THIS would be just about the last place on earth that pedophiles would come to troll for victims and for potential victims to hang out and endanger themselves. Indeed, pedophiles coming HERE for victims seems about as likely as robbers trying to hold up a police station. :-)

Whoa.... BrendaStar... I totally missed this.
