Brenda I think the family of the boy in the balloon from yesterday are in some trouble. Sounds like they may have been caught in a lie and the police want to re-interview them as to the truth of the events. They didn't do the wanted interview last night they said because everyone was so tired and drained after all the work in chasing down the balloon and searching for the boy.

I think it's fair to say we have probably all read things into other people's words and seen motives and qualities in other people's actions that weren't really there. I've done it. You're done it. Jeff has done it. We've all done it, Brenda. And I think we would all do well to follow Jesus' advice and attend to the "log" in our own eye before we worry inordinately about the "speck" in someone else's. And, yes, I direct that advice to myself as much if not more than I do to anyone else. :-)

Brenda, I take a different view of this. You may well be correct that we haven't all and from the very beginning spoken the whole truth about what we think or how we feel about everyone here. But this doesn't have to stem from malevolent game playing or manipulativeness. It could result from basic human decency.
Many people try to live, to some degree or other, by the time-honored maxim, "If you can't say something nice about a person, don't say anything at all," or at least say nothing more disparaging to someone than one needs to.
But then anger gets in the way and the "truth will out" about how someone really feels. Or, as I explained earlier, what you may end up hearing is not how the person really feels but that person's hurt feelings or anger striking out thoughtlessly by saying words designed to return insult for insult, hurt for hurt rather than to tell the truth.
As I clearly stated, either you lack the ability or just don't care enough to DISCERN fact from fiction, my dear.

Denise, I just dropped in and read your comment. In your comment, you quoted something I said to Brenda earlier today. I said what I did after only skimming the comment of yours over which she felt so upset. My impression squares with what you say. You didn't overtly call her stupid. However, in fairness to Brenda, you said things I could see someone interpreting that way, especially if prior upset predisposed someone to interpret just about everything in the most negative way if it was supportive of me, even if you didn't actually mean it that way.
I wasn't sure what you meant, Denise. I thought you might have been angry enough at the time to say something you wouldn't ordinarily say. But, again, I wasn't sure. That's why I said "if she called you stupid." I should have capitalized the IF because that is the operative word there. I was trying to suggest by that word that you may not really have called her that in any way.

I do not understand why they publicize 911 calls. The 911 call of the boy that was caught on fire, being broadcast, is especially disturbing to me. I refuse to listen to it. Why would I want to hear horrifying screams of a boy that is in agony? Why would anyone?

Can one person post 2 comments in a row, from anywhere in this blog wherein Nag had peaceful dialogue? I have searched and I cannot find it. There was argument, contradiction, making fun of someone, or sarcasm in any dialogue he had. A correction of others, a criticism, a slap, twisting of words, a claim of holiness above all others. Nag is not looking for peace, but people to fawn over his every word!
There is not much I can say here that has not already been said by others, but, I do care about those you have offended and “tried” to bring to their knees. Brenda, we all have each other here which helps so much dealing with people like this. It makes me sick to their stomach to read some of this so I stopped. Well, Nagarjuna my friend, the thing is this. Since the beginning of this blog, I, and you and others, have noticed many misinterpretrations being made and offense being taken for no reason, followed by attacks. Even the attacks got twisted. I have noticed it. You have noticed it. Others have noticed it. We have made short reference to this a few times, then let it drop.
But for the past couple of days, I have been seeing the same attack on you about you want control and you want to argue. That in itself did not affect me. The repetition of it did. As I watched this, it made me believe that the attacks on you are not about you wanting control or to argue at all. The underlying reason for this is, I believe, to be about your vast knowledge, but persons here did not know how to approach you in argument about that, because you would be a tough competitor and "you cant start a debate in Chinese, if you dont know the language". So, certain persons decide to attack you on a level that they can be more comfortable with, one that they are more experienced in and have better understanding of. Of course they cannot attack you on your level of knowledge, because they wouldnt know where to begin.
The repetetive argument, and that level of the argument was going nowhere, yet it continued. On and on and on. I just stated my feelings, as we all have and do in here.
This blog is not a part of my life. I come here to discuss issues. I come here to learn new things. I come here while I am relaxing at my computer, and while I am doing other things on the computer. The attacks on me do not affect me.
Also, I want to say this. Before I read what YouAreSuchAFreak wrote about me this morning, I did feel the need to take extra precautionary measures. And I figured, and my very computer-literate amiga, told me that a hacker can find out almost all of your information. They take your info from the computer, then match it with other sources, to get even more info. But Freak still believes that I do not have a job.

Good NEWS and interesting in the News today for a change. But to bad science cannot see past their noses and she decided to join a group that will convince her what she saw was nothing special:
NEWTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- For Laura Geraghty, April 1, 2009, started out just as any other day. It was sunny but cool, she remembers.
Laura Geraghty was shocked 21 times before she came back from cardiac arrest with tales of the afterlife.
The mother of two, also a grandmother, was at her job, driving a school bus for the Newton Public School District in suburban Boston, Massachusetts.
Her passengers, special-needs children, were wheelchair-bound.
Seemingly in good health and in good spirits, Geraghty was finishing up her late-morning run, transporting a student and teacher back to Newton South High School, when she realized she was in trouble.
As she was pulling into the school parking lot, she began having sharp stomach pains. She was able to park her bus, but she kept feeling worse.
The pain "went right up my arm and into my chest, and I said, 'Uh-oh, I'm having a heart attack,' " she said.
The teacher ran from the bus to get help. Newton South's nurse, Gail Kramer, and CPR instructor Michelle Coppola arrived moments later with the school's new automated external defibrillator.
Geraghty, barely conscious, was fading fast. She was weak and having trouble breathing. And then she went into full cardiac arrest.
"Her eyes were wide, and all of a sudden she stopped talking to us," Coppola said. "I grabbed the two pads, stuck them on her, started it up, and I'd say within 20 seconds, she had her first shock."
Coppola and Kramer performed CPR while they waited for paramedics.
At that point, Geraghty says, her body died. She remembers watching the scene unfold -- as if from above.
"I floated right out of my body. My body was here, and I just floated away. I looked back at it once, and it was there."
Geraghty says she saw deceased loved ones, her mother and her ex-husband.
"It was very peaceful and light and beautiful. And I remember like, when you see someone you haven't seen in a while, you want to hug them, and I remember trying to reach out to my ex-husband, and he would not take my hand. And then they floated away."
Next, she says, she was overwhelmed by "massive energy, powerful, very powerful energy."
"When that was happening, there were pictures of my son and my daughter and my granddaughter, and every second, their pictures flashed in my mind, and then I came back."
What Geraghty had was a near-death experience, fairly common in people who go into sudden cardiac arrest.
Geraghty was down for 57 minutes. No blood pressure, no pulse, no oxygen, no blood flow. She was shocked 21 times before she finally came back with tales of the afterlife.
According to the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, nearly 800 near-death experiences happen every day in the United States.
Dr. Kevin Nelson, a neurologist in Louisville, Kentucky, studies near-death experiences and says they're not imagined. The explanation, he says, lies in the brain itself.
"These are real experiences. And they're experiences that happen at a time of medical crisis and danger," Nelson said.
JeffSees I read your post regarding the balloon boy. There is more news on this now. Looks good in the world today, or at least better, as there is not to much news. Makes it a little sad for this boy though:
The young child known as the "balloon boy" appeared sickly on NBC's "Today" show Friday morning. With his eyes adrift, 6-year-old Falcon Heene leaned his tiny head against his father before he vomited -- right in front of the cameras.
Falcon Heene, 6, and his family appeared on CNN's "Larry King Live" on Thursday.
The saga of the boy believed to be floating inside a giant silver balloon adrift over Colorado captivated a world audience. And the media spotlight has stayed on him.
After the boy was discovered safe and sound in his family's attic, his parents have continued to place him in front of TV cameras.
Falcon's vomiting incident followed an earlier TV segment on "Good Morning America" where the boy, wrapped in a gray fleece sweatshirt, looked exhausted.
"Falcon, you OK there?" asked concerned anchor Diane Sawyer.
"No. Mom, I feel like I'm going to vomit," Falcon replied.
Ann Mullis, professor of family and child sciences at Florida State University, said "the vomiting could be due to nervousness, stress or some illness, but a continual push for a person to be in front of the media and do things that aren't developmentally appropriate can be stressful to a young child. He's only 6 years old."
Other child and developmental psychology experts warn that too much media exposure can be harmful. They worry that the spotlight could skew the child's sense of self-identity and negatively affect his or her development.
Mike Brody, chairman of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry's Television and Media Committee, said that being in front of cameras can be an overwhelming experience for children.
Producers and journalists pose a litany of questions, causing the child to feel like he or she is being punished or in trouble, he said. He criticized families who put their children on television or the Internet, calling the act an "intrusion of the child's privacy."
On Thursday, after Falcon came out of the attic over the garage, father Richard Heene invited about 30 members of the media into his home, and a reporter asked Falcon to re-enact how he hid.
"The parents aren't forced to do these media interviews," Brody said. "They can say, 'We want to get together and process what happened here first.' "
There have been few scientific studies on how children who appear in the media spotlight are developmentally affected in the short and long term, says Alan Kazdin, a professor of psychology at Yale University and director of Yale's Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic.
Although Kazdin said it is hard to determine what precise effect media exposure will have on children, he said children who adjust to change easily are less likely to be negatively affected by the attention. He said it's normal for children to be anxious or upset during an interview.
"The child isn't going to be traumatized," Kazdin said. "He's going to do all the shows that might not be a positive experience, but it's not going to stunt him."
Kazdin added that parents often subject their children to things they may not want to do, like getting a vaccination or taking tuba lessons.
Charles Figley, a professor of psychology at Tulane University, said parents should be worried about the long-term effects of the media spotlight.
Figley has spent years studying children of politicians who are used as audio-visual aids. He said Falcon could face teasing or labeling from his community, which could impair his self-identity at a very young age.
Figley also warned that, unlike child stars, children like Falcon usually aren't trained to handle the media.
"He will never be the same again, because he's been on CNN, 'Good Morning America' or whatever, his 15 minutes of fame," he said.
Child stars and children of celebrities have long battled the emotional distress of being tabloid fodder and being hunted by the paparazzi. But psychologists say shows like TLC's "Jon and Kate Plus 8" and CBS's "Kidnation" have influenced ordinary parents to seek fame.
Experts say there are ample opportunities for children to be exploited in an era littered with social media, YouTube, blogs and reality television.
After the balloon set off Thursday, there were reports that young Falcon might have climbed aboard. Federal and local authorities, including the Colorado Air National Guard and the Federal Aviation Administration, searched by air and on foot for more than four hours around the Fort Collins, Colorado, Heene home.
"I'm feeling very, very grateful that Falcon is among us," Richard Heene, a meteorologist, said after he was found. "We went through so many emotions yesterday."
Some in the media and the public have expressed anger and belief that the incident was a publicity stunt.
On CNN's "Larry King Live" on Thursday, Falcon said he heard his parents call for him from the garage. When asked by his father on air why he didn't respond, the boy replied, "You guys said we did this for the show."
When Heene was questioned by host Wolf Blitzer to explain what his son meant, he became uncomfortable, finally saying he was "appalled" by the questions. He added that Falcon probably was referring to all the media coverage.
Heene continued Friday to angrily deny speculation that the balloon incident was a publicity stunt on the "Today" show and "Good Morning America."
Stunt or no, the Heene family has a reputation of putting Falcon and his brothers in the public eye.
Richard and Mayumi Heene and their children were featured on the ABC reality show "Wife Swap," in which the mothers of two families who have very opposite living or parenting styles switch places for two weeks.

A YouTube video of the family appearing on Denver, Colorado's KMGH newscast features two of the Heene sons briefly discussing chasing a hurricane. On CNN's iReport, Heene's submissions include an account of his sons helping him chase Hurricane Gustav.

After being fired, a Portland woman decided to take matters into her own hands and take revenge against her boss. So she hacks into a co-workers computer and calls the electric company and asks for her boss' power to be cut. The electric company is pretty bright (HA! Get it?!) and they call the woman's boss and finds out that the call was FAKE. The woman was arrested and is due in court this week.
DUH! That ain't smart! if you're going to cut the power, go to his house and cut the power! Get down and dirty! Shoot! This woman should've thought things thru! The benefit is that if she's in the clink, then she wont have to worry about finding another job!

In fact, I think it's fair to say that almost any time I've been approached with civility if not respect and engaged with substantive discussion instead of ad hominem attacks, I have had "peaceful dialogue" with people.
Despite the lingering resentment I feel toward you for some of the things you've said here and the fact that other people have, in my opinion, looked the other way instead of sternly calling you on it, I am nevertheless willing to have "peaceful dialogue" even with you, Freak, Jeff, and my other strongest detractors.

It is, in a way, a little tough when the reality of it sets in. I knew there was a good possibility I might be in the situation when I applied, so it’s nothing unexpected, but is a little unnerving. Monday hasn’t come yet, so I haven’t actually committed yet, but I know I will call and confirm the position, and give notice on my contract then. Part of me is hesitant to take the job. Giving up my partnership at the firm, leaving my friends and family (but my family is so scattered anyway. I’ll probably see them more in the Philippines because they will want to visit the islands.) I’ll have to deal with my house and apartment. I don’t like the idea of renting my house out, but don’t think I should sell it until I see how it goes. I have all these things reeling in my head while I tried to focus on work the past few days, and it was difficult.

An investigation into the deaths of two people who spent up to two hours inside a "sweat lodge" at an Arizona retreat last week has been elevated from an accidental death investigation to a homicide inquiry, Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh told reporters Thursday.
Self-help author James Arthur Ray has hired investigators to investigate two deaths at an Arizona sweat lodge.
Authorities said James Shore, 40, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Kirby Brown, 38, of Westtown, New York, died Friday at the Angel Valley Resort after spending up to two hours in the sauna-like sweat lodge. Nineteen others were treated for injuries. One person remained hospitalized Thursday in critical condition, Waugh said.
The dead and injured were attending a program by self-help author James Arthur Ray, authorities said.
A search warrant was executed Wednesday at the James Ray International offices in Carlsbad, California, the sheriff said. Authorities were attempting to determine whether documents exist on how to construct sweat lodges and on their proper use, as well as documents showing whether participants were advised of the risks of sweat lodges either before or during the program. They also were searching for rosters from past events, Waugh said.
Police would not say what, if anything, was found in executing the search warrant.
Asked why the deaths have been classified as homicides and the investigation upgraded, Waugh said, "We believe there are indications that it was not accidental, and ... we feel that there should be some culpability on some individuals."
Those individuals could include Ray and possibly others, he said.
A spokesman for Ray said authorities should be focusing on the investigation rather than talking to reporters. "The Sheriff's Department is trying this case in the media," said Howard Bragman, noting that Thursday's news conference was the sheriff's second this week.
"There were no additional facts presented today; there were implications. I find words like 'homicide' -- when they don't have all the facts -- inflammatory and inappropriate at this time, and I think they're purposely inflammatory. ... Let's show as much zeal with the investigation and getting to the facts as they have in trying to tar my client," Bragman said.
The sweat lodge was meant to be a "spiritual awakening" exercise for the participants in the "Spiritual Warrior" program, Waugh said.
A sweat lodge is a dome-like structure covered with tarps and blankets. Hot rocks and water are used to create steam in the enclosed environment.
The owners of the resort built the sweat lodge, Waugh said, under Ray's direction. A nurse on Ray's staff was present during the event, police have said.
At least one of those who died was in the back of the structure, Waugh said. Ray was positioned near its door. There were no seats, he said; participants either sat or lay on the floor.
On Tuesday, Ray said he has hired his own investigators to determine what happened at his Arizona retreat, located in a secluded valley 20 minutes from Sedona. "I have no idea what happened. We'll figure it out," Ray said. "I've lost people I love and really care about."
Ray is the author of the best-selling book "Harmonic Wealth: The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want." Ray, described on his Web site as a "personal success strategist," has appeared on CNN's "Larry King Live" and the "Oprah Winfrey Show," and is featured in the self-empowerment film "The Secret."

The use of sweat lodges for spiritual and physical cleansing is a part of several Native American tribes' cultures.
A traditional Native American sweat lodge is a small dome-like structure made of willow branches carefully tied together and covered in canvas. Rocks are heated in a nearby fire pit and placed inside the lodge, and water is poured over them to create steam.

Phillip Garrido's attorney has filed a broad request for information on what type of evidence has been gathered against her client, who is charged with abducting Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991, when she was 11.
Public defender Susan Gellman filed her six-page request in El Dorado Superior Court in California asking for an array of information, including a list of prosecution witnesses to be called at trial and whether any have convictions for felonies or moral turpitude.
She also is requesting witness statements, photos, police officer notes and records of samples of hair, blood, urine or tissue taken during the investigation.
Gellman asks for "all relevant real evidence seized or obtained as part of the investigation of the offense(s) charges" as well as "the existence of a felony or moral turpitude conviction of any material witness whose credibility is likely to be critical to the outcome of the trial."
Garrido and his wife, Nancy, are being held in the El Dorado County Jail and are scheduled to return to court Oct. 29 for a preliminary hearing. The district attorney's office has said a trial for the couple likely will not commence for up to two years.

Jaycee Lee Dugard 'giddy' about her newfound freedom, says family friend

Jaycee Lee Dugard, who spent 18 years as the captive of a religious zealot sex offender before her rescue two months ago, is “giddy” about her new-found freedom.
In her first media appearance since police took her from the convicted sex attacker Phillip Garrido, Ms Dugard, 29, was photographed in People magazine laughing with her mother and half-sister as she spoke of her new outlook on life.
However, she and her two daughters – Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11, both of whom were fathered by her captor — have a long way to go before a full recovery from the ordeal, according to a family spokeswoman, Erika Price Schulte.
Joan Curry, a family member, said: “Jaycee’s realistic. She knows this is not going to be the easiest road that she’s travelled, but she is very upbeat — giddy that she’s with her family.”

Ms Dugard’s mother, Terry Probyn, also feels unable to let her daughter out of her view. “Terry feels like, after 18 years, she doesn’t want to let her out of her sight,” Ms Price Schulte said.
Ms Dugard has said that the help she is receiving from her family is inspiring: “Nothing is more important than the unconditional love and support I have from them.”
Another focus is on educating the young girls and Jaycee, who had completed only the fifth grade when she was abducted.
“The young girls are very bright,” Ms Curry told the magazine. “They’re really pretty much at grade level on everything.”
Ms Price Schulte added: “Jaycee and the girls really love riding horses,” she said, adding that Ms Probyn, half-sister Shayna Probyn, and their therapist often accompany them on the rides.
They are living at a secret location in northern California.

The man accused in the abduction and years-long sexual abuse of Jaycee Dugard in 2006 sought to start an institute at his home near Antioch.
Whether Phillip Garrido meant to open a school for children — a claim careening across the blogosphere — is doubtful.
It appears Garrido never followed through on any plans he had for "The Phillip C. Knight Institute." He never applied for a business license from Contra Costa County and filed nothing with the state Department of Education, officials said.

My amigostealing amigo and I are having a great time watching TV, eating storebought salads and sourdough french bread, discussing free will vs determinsim, time travel paradoxes, and all kinds of other things. We watched a lot of Bill Maher's show on HBO last night and particularly enjoyed the episode with Michael Moore, Elliot Spitzer, Paul Krugman, and John Waters. All bright and interesting guys. Today, we'll be watching the, in my opinion, classic George Lucas sci-fi movie THX-1138. I haven't seen it for decades, and my friend has never seen it. I recorded it in HD with my DVR. And then we're going to work on formatting my new blog with some extra doodads. My friend is much more adept at these things than I am.

I have a question for you, Brenda. You seem to be very upset over what you perceive as insults and betrayal of you. Have you ever asked yourself how you would feel if someone repeatedly accused you of being a pedophile posting here under multiple ID's to entrap victims, that they were working on evidence to prove it but they never produced that evidence, and they said they hated you and wanted to come after you and handcuff and mutilate you? Have you EVER thought about THAT?
And, while we're on the subject, have you ever thought about how you'd feel if other people were unctuously friendly to the person who said those things to you instead of calling that person out on the carpet for it? Have you EVER thought about THAT?
