Meanwhile, Jaycee was robbed of an education, a life, an ability to earn a living. Each time she looks at hear children, she will see the DNA of this sick disgusting lowlife, Philip Garrido, and be reminded of the abduction and rapings. She is scarred for life.
And Phil's wife enabled all of this. She actually dragged Jaycee into the car in 1991.
There is simply no punishment that could be meted out against these two pieces of excrement that would properly provide restitution for the long term damage they inflicted on Jaycee.
They will be locked up for life. But how do we stop this from happening again? There needs to be a "Jaycee law" which keeps any first time sex offender (kidnapping and rape) in jail for mandatory life terms. These creeps cannot be rehabilitated. They are released and they do it again and again. We must make sure that no other innocent child endures this unimaginable pain and suffering.

Garrido may very well be "sick" but he knew exactly what he was doing and that it was wrong or he wouldn't have kept Jaycee hidden all these years. He is competent to stand trial and if he is really sorry for what he has done he will plead guilty and ask for the death penalty which is better than he deserves. The people ranting and raving on this blog are hurting over what was done to this poor girl and are fustrated that people like him are released from jail everyday when they should be spending their lives behind bars. Where kidnappers, rapists and child molestors are concerned our justice system is woefully inadequate. The parole board that released this man and the probation officer or officers charged with supervising him should all be ashamed of themselves and should lose their jobs. You should not waste one second on defending him as a sick person because he does not deserve it. He is a vile excuse for a human being.
I think that Google needs to offer to the police investigating this matter the profile information and IP address of "Tommy" who left the post supporting Mr. Garrido and indicating that he knew him personally and agreed with what he was done. It sounds like he was aware of the situation and failed to report it, which makes him an accomplice. The courts just ordered Google to release the identity of a slanderous blogger...Tommy, you should realize that you will probably now come under suspicion and have your home and backyard searched. I am personally notifying Google to release your info to authorities. Everyone else here should do the same.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would suggest that Garrido saved Jaycee from a life of prostitution and drugs. To suggest that she was a prostitute at 11 or that she had intentions of becoming one is ridiculous. To suggest that she was using drugs or intended to use them is also ridiculous.
Frankly, it is my view that, if you suggest that he saved her, you are probably concealing a child or would be if you had a chance. You're equally as irresponsible with other people's lives as he is. This has saddened my day for sure, but I feel a sense of safety with these two in jail.
At the age of six, I was violently molested and my molester was over 30 years old. I never told my mom and she was murdered when I was ten. So, this guy is still on the loose after 30 years. While reporters are pouring over his misspelled rants and declarations, I find it curious that so many individuals have decided to leave comments on his postings, some of which are quite amusing. Understandably people are very disturbed by the lengths to which Mr. Garrido has now successfully tried to make his voice heard. What is ironic is that the comments are heavily peppered with homophobic insults and religious banter which seems to be on some level, very in line with Mr. Garrido's own philosophy and views on God.
Whether Mr. Garrido attempts to mount, or is successful with using an insanity defense is yet to be seen, but there is another element to this story which is worth noting and that concerns the value of "content." Such as with intentionally misleading websites run by racists to dishonor our civil rights leaders, Mr. Garrido's blog raises the same freedom of speech issues we are beginning to grapple with as a society. Here we have an obviously mentally unstable psychopath who feels "comfortable" and is almost flagrantly using the internet to communicate with Law Enforcement. It has been three days now since Mr. Garrido has been apprehended and Google still feels it's appropriate to leave his blog up.
Consider this scenario playing out before the Internet, say twenty years ago: Mr. Garrido, in love with his own words and fanatic about his own personal Jesus, decides he's going to tell the world all about his inventions and worldview. So, he goes home, writes down his ideas and then makes a thousand photocopies. Then, with his wife, he casually strolls the streets of Antioch, Berkeley and Pittsburg stapling the evidence of his insanity everywhere from telephone polls to bulletin boards at the local community college. Then suddenly Mr. Garrido is arrested for kidnapping. What becomes of the documents he worked so hard to distribute in a public forum, such as the post from June 2nd of this year.

Kellibrew, I am sorry for what happened to you and your mother when you were young. But most of the commenters here are decidedly NOT "standing up for what is right" when they spout hatred and vile fantasies involving the repeated anal rape and unending torture of a desperately sick human being. They are sadly displaying the darkness if not sickness that lies in their own psyches and reinforcing it in each other over the course of their mob frenzy. And, as some have pointed out, this does nothing to help the victims of Garrido's abuse. If anything, it seems likely to deter people from seeking the compassionate help they need to avoid victimizing others the way Garrido did those girls. For those who are hated most by society are the most likely to hate themselves and to act in concomittantly hateful ways, partly out of the conviction that they are beyond redemption, and partly out of the fear that their attempts to seek help would be met only with hatred and even violence against them.

This is the first reaction of something terrible that happened to some person we don't even know but even if we hated her we didn't want to wish it would happen to her. AT, I'm not playing "Devil's Advocate." I think I'm asking legitimate questions, and I believe in the opinions I'm expressing.
Am I doing these things in an overbearing manner? Probably. Am I being deliberately and unduly provocative? I suppose so. Am I flaunting any kind of "intellectual superiority." What superiority? I'm asking questions that go unanswered and making points that go unrefuted.
Is it wrong for me to do this here and now, to rain on the hate parade so soon after this awful story broke? I don't know. Is it? Should I do it, if I do it at all, some other place and some other time?
Where would be the right place, and when would be the right time? Right now, a lot of people are here venting their outrage in what strikes me as outrageous ways. I've seized upon that opportunity to question and rebuke them for it. Is it "heartless" of me to do this? I don't know, AT. Is it?

What this man and his wife did was incomprehensible and disgusting. They took an innocent 11 yr. old girl from her family for years. They will never get those years back.
The saddest part of all, and what bothers me the most, is the fact there are two young girls in this world that I'm sure are loved by Jaycee. Now these girls have to learn that they were a product of rape and nothing more. That's going to be a hard pill for them to swallow, as well as for Jaycee and her family.
For all we know, these girls may just love and adore their father. (Although it sickens me to think that) Remember they have never been to school, or out in the real world. They only know what they have been told since they were old enough to understand. That back yard was their entire world. I hope and pray that these children don't ask for visitations with their captors, but that's certainly a possibility and will most certainly enrage a lot of people.

These responses are as violent as Garrido in many ways. Yes, he's obviously a horrifying, narcissistic sociopath who needs to be locked up forever, and that's in fact what will happen to him. But in modern societies we don't practice an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth justice - that would turn us all immediately into monsters. Is that what people here want? Please. And there is too much amateur psychiatric diagnosis going on. Schizophrenia is not statistically associated with violence; it's almost universally associated with withdrawal and suicide. These rash assertions are not helping anyone, particularly not the mentally ill. There is something profoundly sociopathic going on with Garrido, involving psychosis and probably other conditions and forms of damage, but even that doesn't mean he'll get off on an "psychologically incompetent to stand trial" argument. It takes a lot to make that argument stick, it almost never happens, and it's very unlikely in this case. He is likely to be sent to regular prison but be separated from the rest of the inmate population, though that's not assured. But it's clear he'll never be let out again. People need to be a little bit more circumspect with their violent, vengeful impulses. I think those uttering threats would be very suprised how much they'd like living in a true vigilante justice society. There's a saying: we tend to come to resemble the thing we most oppose in others. Instead, let's assert our own humanity and make sure the victims are not harrassed while they recover, to whatever extent they are able to recover.
Correction: how much they'd DISLIKE living in a vigilante society.

to NAG I dont think you understand that these people are only venting. There are so many children harmed every day and it doesn't seem as if there is any justice at all sometimes. And worse, these are 11 and 15 year old girls who are seeing these comments right now and (despite their shielding from society until now, and with a bit of training), will be able to read all the headlines and posts about themselves and the horrors about their family origins and upbringing.

Just a thought. Maybe you can make a difference in someone's life in your community who needs your help.... if you really wanted to do something.

C'mon people, I've scrolled thru all your comments on here and I haven't found them at all useful in helping me judge the quality or turnaround times of Mr Garrido's printing service.

IMHO If a man's sperm is found in a child, or if it can be proven that an adult male has produced a child with a child, then he should be given the choice of castration or life in prison. This type of punishment will stop them from raping again.

I scrolled down through some of the comments and I have to confess.... I am incredibly fascinated by this whole ordeal. BUT- someone tried to suggest that this guy is a Christian and that incriminates the rest of us. This guy is blatantly NOT a Christian. It's hilarious and embarrassing all at the same time that the people who are seen on the news who are Christians are always the kids like Garrido who smoked too much pot and experimented just one too many times with LSD to ever be considered sane in any capacity.

I completely agree with you, Nagarjuna. Society should never condone dehumanization, torture, or rape. I think the lust for such things arises from the desire to compensate for the laxity of the "justice" system. As long as mental illness doesn't make you hurt people, it's OK to feel compassion for you, but if it does make you hurt people, then you should be hated and tortured for it. Does that sound fair? For those suggesting an insanity defense, or "incompetence to stand trial"... Incompetence to stand trial would mean that he sat in jail until such time that he became competent; and if he never became competent he would spend his life in jail. (At most, it would be a way for him to avoid the death penalty by avoiding a trial, but he would be in jail for the rest of his life.)
As for insanity, he's obviously not sane, but legal insanity means he didn't comprehend the nature of his criminal actions, or understand that they were wrong. If a "willful and intentional" act is "sick," doesn't this mean that the will or intention was caused by sickness? If not, what DOES it mean? If so, how do you hold someone "responsible" for an act that they couldn't help but will, intend, and commit?
No, sickness does not imply the lack of free will. Something done without free will is considered accidental. Garrido did not accidentally kidnap and rape Jaycee. He did it on purpose. The act was "sick" because it was depraved. He was "sick" because he is apparently schizophrenic, which is an illness. But it is not an illness -- and there is no illness -- which causes people against their will to kidnap and rape others. If he had dyslexia at the time, he would also be mentally "sick", but no more or less culpable for his actions. The law says that if he is so sick that he didn't understand the nature of what he was doing, then that would be an excuse, and he should be hospitalized instead of imprisoned. But that is clearly not the case. He even claims to have "turned his life around" after committing these "sick" crimes.
Moreover, anyone who commits a crime against another human being is "sick". The proper cure for the societal sickness of crime is to permanently remove those who commit it from society.

I don't think that he needs to get away with it bc he's insane, no way, but he needs meds.
It's hard to imagine why he was freed from prison after an earlier rape conviction. Proof that our system needs a tune-up...to say the least.
